I have heard that if you have less than 25 flight hours that you go there before API. Is that correct? How long is this phase of training?

In an attempt to level the playing field for initial entry SNA, in 2001 the Navy began outsourcing some very basic flying skills before entry into the formal flight program. Introductory Flight Screening (IFS) provides each student with 25 hours of flight time and ground school administered by civilian, FAA-certified flight schools. IFS has made a significant reduction in flight attrites and drop on request (DORs). Open to all accession sources, an objective is to have all students complete IFS prior to reporting to Pensacola, where possible.

A similar program has begun for SNFO's, providing 13.5 hours of flight training and ground school.
