All,

I am currently an SK2 in the Navy with a little over 7 years in. I just got my degree in Computer Information Systems with a 3.8 GPA. All of my evals are excellent (1MP, 2EP), I was Junior Sailor of the Year at my command, all interviews were great (done by 2 Captains, 1 Commander), I have 2 endorsements from two other Captains, community service, a 39 on the OAR, and a strong personal statement. What do you think my chances of getting picked up for Supply Corps are?

everything sounds great except maybe your OAR score, may retake the test, everyone on here who has been accepted lately seems to be at least 45+, 50+ preferable..but i think most of them have been civilians, so past experience may make up for that

dude study the Marine ASTB guide on this forum. and retake that test. 39 is real real low. Most people are getting 50's. It sounds like you took the test and didn't understand alot of the material. But don't despair the study guide on this forum will help you. Another thing. Your credentials are good, but get it in your head that everybody other enlisted applicant is just as qualified. You just might go up agains't another prior with equal stats but has a higher score on the OAR. Retake it man. good luck

Heard that all billets are extremely full. I know you are interested in Supply, but I do know that word came down from on high that 25 Pilot slots are for FY 2003. And just recently a guy wih a solid test scores, Gpa and major and a 2 star support got denied for Pilot. I heard that the only billet that is being recruited same as usual is nuq. But they are selective as all get out anyways...

Sounds good to me. G.P.A. and having a technical degree along w/ your EPs are heavy weight. If you get a GOOD comand endorsement you should be pretty darn compeditive!

YOu will get in for Supply..its prbably the easiest designator to get. Your GPA is good. Do you have your pin? Have you been on a ship.. they will look for that.. if you been in and been rock hopping.. it will not look good for you. Junior sailor looks good as well. If your interviews are 10's.. I see no problem. I know an officer that just graduated from OCS and they said they are hurting for supply officers.. your OAR isnt that good.. but I know a few supply officers that had 30-31 on their OAR so.. its not a big deal.

YOU ARE SCREWED!

Just kidding. Your stats look solid. The OAR is a liitle low, but everything else looks great. You may want to bone up a bit on the material and give the test another try. If you get in the mid to upper 40's with your other stats youd probably be golden. But as always, Needs of the Navy. If they say no, reapply. Then reapply until you get accpeted.

I know what you mean, I scored a 35 on the ASTB and I just retook the the dam thing I did better OAR 43, I don't want to take it again in 6 months (time factor) If I don't get picked up I will retake it then, but maybea way to look at it, if the Navy is not going to pick you to be an officer over one test then maybe they really don't want you at all? Something to think about.. good luck,..... I should hear back in the 3rd or 4th week of May on my package. Mike

Your background looks superb, especially the impressive record and seaman of the year award. As long as there are no other major blemishes, you should definitely get picked up.

With a 3.8, you have dominated many a difficult test, so I think that you could have dominated the ASTB. Do you think you could do any better? It's certainly worth a try, especially since the math and science parts should be easy for you.

bcolbert18,
With a CIS degree, are you able to apply for the supply corps? From what I can gather from the instruction (OPNAVINST 1420.1 Ch 4), the requirements for the Supply Corps is as follows:

A baccalaureate degree in a business-related field such as Accounting, Business Administration or Finance is desired.
Experience in Business or Finance is also preferred.

Is there something that I am missing? Thanks.

The degree will probably fly because you are an SK. (For the non priors SKs are enlisted supply specialists)If you do take the time to retake the exam and haven't already gotten a SC officer interview, get one. The SC guys really prefer to hear from one of their own for the pro-rec. Good Luck!

You being an SK ... you will get picked up. Its doesnt matter what the degree is... unless your a meterologist or oceanagraphy/engineering, jag, or doc, then it matters. You already know the job.. and for OAR scores.. I was talking to my ESO when I took my OAR and they said that they had a guys get picked up for supply with lower than a 31. I also know an intel officer who got a 30 on his OAR with an english degree, and another with a 51 with a masters. I would pay attention to a lot of this gouge. Lately for INTEL/CRYPTO they want 45 at least. Civilians have it a lot harder since they havent proven themselves where enlisted have. When it comes down to it... they are going to respect the words of a captain or CO over some college professor who said that this guy/gal is great (from probably the two classes they had with him or her). You have a very good shot.. and post if you get it or not.. leave some hope for the rest of us. Thanks.
