What do you think about Navy food?

As far as eating on base: I usually always brought my food in the fleet while we were home. Occasionally, I'd go out to eat, but my squadron had a pretty good leftover game and the JO's routinely took over the ready room and its microwave to dine together.

Can we see a menu ?

Yep. http://www.slantedporch.com/lunch/

I will also add that while their lunches are really good, their dinners are even better. It's like a little oasis in the middle of nowhere. The chef's brother and father are ranchers so when he needs beef, he goes and gets it fresh. I generally have a rule of no eating seafood in the desert but not there. It used to be hard to get a decent meal in Fallon if you weren't looking for Mexican but that all changed with the Porch.

You get an "Above" for this hop :-)

Maine Street and Courtyard Cafe are both great too. And for a completely different dinner option, VN Pho is pretty awesome. Fallon has a surprising number of good places these days.

I'm guessing you did t have 5-10 useless new guys arcing around the RR to task for lunch. So much cheap labor in an F squadron.

Yeah, that's true. We were amazed by our F squadron's ability to multiply on cruise. It seemed like every week there was a new JG in that squadron.

One thing I will say for the Marines - on my last Afghanistan tour we had two, count it, two, Marines from ANGLICO at this tiny Army COP. On November 10, a USMC bird comes hovering in with birthday cake, ice cream, and ceremony instructions...enough for all to partake. I was impressed.

And don't even bother trying to go to the NAS Fallon Subway around those times during Air Wing.

Do they still have a geedunk in the Air Wing hangar? Used to hit that up for lunch most days on my one trip to Fallon years ago.

Sadly, they stopped doing dinner a couple months back, at least aside from private parties as I understand. Granted I lived in fernley, and as such, generally ate out in Reno/sparks so I'm not 100% positive about this, just what I've heard at work.

Only formal "geedunk" is over in the FTB, but during AWF and SFARP most fleet FCPOA's will run a breakfast griddle and lunch grill option, at both hangars. NAWDC will occasionally do the same during AWF at the HQ building, though the CS1 who made the tasty b-fast burritos has since left the command
