Okay, at MEPS they said I was 20/25, failed the depth perception exam, and was -2.25 refractive error so I went to a private eye Doc. as told to do so. The private doc came up with 20/20, passed depth perception (I was not rushed like at MEPS) and no refractive error. My question is this: Will the selection board look at my application any differently since I am submitting a private eye exam along with my physical to verify that I meet vision requirements? Basically, do they look down upon outside eye exams? I know the recruiter said it would be fine and my eye doc. said they could call if needed but I have the normal anxiety and just wanted to ask some opinions. Thanks, Ed

E6286, it depends if meps recomended a wavier or not. I had some problems with my earballs. Meps did not recomend a wavier so I was sunk. Then I was told about a speech recognition test. I went to a private Dr., took the test and passed it. Those results went back to meps and they changed my physical to "recomended wavier" status. Then my packet went to TN and the first day it was there I got my wavier! Hang in there bro. If you passed it with a privaye Doc, you should be fine, you just might have a couple of more hoops to jump through though.

Grouch, where did you go through meps? The reason I'm asking is because I need a waiver as well-- for esophogitis. I haven't done the meps physical yet, but after I turned in my med. preescreening my recruiter told me that the meps doc wanted an evaluation by an outside doc. Went and had the evaluation done and the civilian doc that did it said everything looked fine-- no problems. I'm just wondering if the meps doc is going to be as nice and give me the recommendation after I turn in my evaluation report. I'm a little nervous about the whole thing.

Cman, the meps was in Dallas and what a joke it was. The meps Dr. won't care as long as another Dr. will attest to your condition. Besides, it's really not up to him. He will just pass it on to the board in TN. (I think)

Grouch, thanks for the info. That helps me to feel a little better about whole thing.

If this doc at the MEPS here in Louisville gives me any grief, I swear, I'll drive my ass to Dallas, check in with an OPO, and head over to the MEPS there.

LCDR Williams is a pretty good guy, but LCDR Shannon seems to know what is going on in the aviation community a bit more (he is a pilot). And LCDR Shannon will tell you how things are. Both guys are pretty damn good.
