CSM Basil Plumley passed away yesterday at age 92. He was a veteran of 3 wars and was portrayed by Sam Elliot in the move "We Were Soldiers".

Movie dialogue or did he really say that? I didn't read the book but found Elliot's portrayal awesome. The thought that Plumley was tougher then that portrayal is a testament to his legend.
