Getting Closer and Closer by the minute
Ok, I am now looking to get another 1911 .45 acp. I am thinking something around 4inch barrel and I would like 9 or more rounds in the Mag. Any suggestions, personal experience with anything?

9 or more in a 4" barrel? You're looking at double-stack, which means biiiig grip.

I have a certain degree of fondness for the Kimber Polymer Target. The grip isn't that big...and certainly isn't cumbersome at all.

Just remember, in a short barrel, you'll need a hotter load to get any kind of performance matching a 5-5.5" barrel with a normal load. .45ACP is a low pressure load for longer barrels. This is critical when it comes to JHP.

Thats one of the reasons Im not a big fan of the compact Glock 45ACP's. Velocity is just too low to give the kind of penetration you need and you loose capacity against a 9mm or .40 cal.

one suggestion ... based on experience, I would again buy a

Colt Combat Commander (4")

..... and 3 Wilson Combat 8 round .45 ACP magazines

... and you have your 9 rounds (8+1)

I've had a package like this for over 25 years, carried it, and competed successfully with it.

How about the Sig P245?

SIG Sauer 245

I've got one --- nice little carry pistol. I prefer it to the Colt Officer's model that I used to have. BUT----- it hasn't sold as well or is as well known as other SIG's. I don't really like the grip on the SiG 245. It is tough for me to get a "proper" grip on presentation. That, and with the heavy first double action trigger pull (@11-13 pounds?) makes me somewhat uncomfortable when using the pistol for it's intended purpose --- i.e., to protect me and mine. I got the "extended" magazines as well and they destroy the purpose of being "compact" and concealable --- almost turn it into a service pistol. HEY!!! It's a compact or a service pistol!!! Wanna buy it ..... ??? :)

Well I did it, I bought the .45. I went with the Kimber Pro Carry 2. 7 Round Mag w/ night sights and all decked out as you can see. I love it so far. Only problem is she will NOT chamber my Speer Gold Dots, they simply will not feed, though it feeds FMJ rounds just fine. I will try some other JHP rounds and see if they work.
Here are some pics, also shown is my Colt AR-15 w/ 16 inch barrel and once again, all the goodies.

Suggestion: I would call Kimber and see what they say about this. Sometimes (usually?) in modern pistols with proper feed ramps and modern ammo the problem can be traced to the magazine. Specifically, ask them about Speer Gold Dots and get their recommendations on other ammo they tested with that model pistol. I gave up on Speer HP's many years ago -- the old "flying ashtray" bullet --- as they were "unreliable" in too many pistols. But Speer GD has had a pretty good reputation for feeding, at least in the LEO community. Call Kimber ....
