So, I recall that when I signed up, there was an option to put wings underneath your name. I don't recall that there were any other options however...was it possible to put enlisted warfare insignia, aircrew wings etc...in your profile? Is there a way to put them in after the fact?

I don't recall them being available and think it would be a good idea...what are your opinions. Personally, I plan to wear my wings over my dolphins...but you can bet I'll still wear them.

John (who has Dolphins) already made the call for only NA and NFO wings.

From a mod thread, by the Webmaster:

"I only want to stick to the two pairs of wings.... those were a pain to get working and formatted, and I don't want to go down that for all the assorted chest candy that the Navy has."

"I established the wings so it was easier to identify those that have been through the pipeline and training for everyone."

Zab, thanks for the response. Scoober, got your PM, but haven't had time to reply. Zab took the time to recap my stance on it. The wings came about to identify the NA's on the forum. You do have a good idea, but I don't desire to go through the implementation portion to make it happen. I would counter, that users need to update their profiles. Nothing irritates me more when i am posting a response to a user's question, and they have zip in thier profile for me to figure out how to gauge my response against their experience/background level.

That's why I made my own....:icon_smil As one who's wings aren't represented as a standard option, I understand that maintaining this board takes a lot of work. I don't need to make any more work for anyone. Thanks for all y'all do.

+1 on the above. Didn't realize it was a work issue. If there is anything I can do to make it easier let me know...but I suspect not. Thanks for the time. Didn't mean to cut off the PM correspondance BTW but I suspected I might be able to get an answer from one of the senior folks...

This...is...Caketown!
Eh, I voted "yes" but go ahead and ignore one of those "yes" votes. I didn't realize it'd be that much work for other people.

Why don't you just post a close-up picture of you in your khakis for your avatar. That way we'll know how much respect/ridicule you rate. :D

Another point brought out during the moderator discussion after wings became available is that one of the primary purposes of this board to help those aspiring of be NAs, NFOs and or officers in another community. As such, it was felt that only offering officer insignia was the way to go. Although we happily offer advise to anyone request information about the enlisted side, it is not the board's purpose. The insignia help identify officers that are warfare qualified not only to acknowledge their achievements but to also give someone asking a question a quick glimpse as to whether the the guy posting an answer really has the experience or knowledge to back up his answer.

Based on the Webmaster's response earlier in this thread, I'm going to take on the role of the bad guy for him. I've closing this thread and zeroing out the poll. The reason there are only officer wings has been answered.

After closing this thread, I received the following as part of a pm.

..... please keep in mind that several members of this board without wings have more general military experience than many of the members with wings....not to mention more fleet experience and more recent exposure to commissioning routes. Not trying to stir up trouble...just a point of clarification.

This is a very valid point. This is also why having a profile filled out with meaningful information is helpful. I know I check profiles when I wonder about a member's background and experience level.

But having enlist warfare insignia does not mean the holder is knowledgeable about officer programs. There are many enlisted members on this site that have never applied to be officers. However every officer on the site has been through the application process for a commissioning source and every winged officer has been through a NA or NFO syllabus. That is the focus.

So fill in your profiles. Especially those belonging to the active or prior enlisted community on the site.
