Waiting for a class to begin

Before you go off, I would have posted this in the below thread if it weren't locked.

If I am understanding this correctly, at each phase of training for an NFO (API, Primary, intermediate, etc..) you stand a chance of having to wait for a class to begin. The above thread seems to say that when waiting you basically muster, PT, and go on about your business for the rest of the day taking care of admin details as needed. Have I read that part correctly or do they put you to work doing something mind-numbingly boring just to keep you busy? Do you have less waiting once you are in the "pipeline"? I would think they would do their best to make classes end and start in a way that minimizes down time, but what do I know?

Secondly, there is a load of info on this site! I don't have a clue how to go about performing a "search" that would actually yield the information I am looking for. I mean, I know how to use the function, but how would an AW pro actually perfom the search? By keyword I suppose, but my searches seem to turn up a load of unrelated topics. While I'd like answers to my above questions, I'd also like some pointers on how you might have looked for the info if it were your question.

You could get stashed working in flight management i.e. admin work. You could also be volunteered to be in aviation studies i.e. NAMRL, ASTB re-take, etc. And then theres the ever-so-popular working party where youre slaved into moving tables, furniture, or whatever needs to be moved. If youre lucky you wont have to do much except muster every morning and then back home to bed.

Ill assume youre talking about post-API. It really depends on when you checked into the training wing and how many people were waiting in front of you. In primary, classes start every 2 weeks. The class-up dates vary so much so theres no specific answer. When you check into the wing, then inquiry about class-up dates. But for now, I wouldn't worry about it.

Start with topics relating to your inquiry i.e. API, NFO, etc. Then start going through the threads. Use the search function for keywords, like "housing" or "API gouge" or whatever. Welcome to the "Big Boy" Program :D

Thanks for the responses. I have found exactly what I wanted, just didn't know the correct jargon.

This thread can be deleted if necessary.

psmith,

To answer you q2 in the most direct manner possible: Possible wait times before API, between API and primary and between intermediate and advanced. There is not wait between primary and intermediate b/c you stay in the same squadron.

DISCLAIMER: Above info assumes you select TACAIR out of primary.

Don't forget duty. To give an example, I checked into the Wing at Primary at 0730 on a Monday, and I started a week-long duty at 0800 same day. Some of my classmates were assigned WDO (or whatever they called it) other days that week.
