The legend of A4s

A4's, The Man, The Myth, The Legend.

Should get a T-Shirt, sir.

Your fan club awaits....you could almost insert A4s for Duke in this passage on the legendary Uncle Duke (my substitutions in brackets), but it would likely fall short in the end:

Uncle Duke[A4s] is a fictional (non fictional, but certainly legendary in case of A4s) character in the comic strip Doonesbury [in the lore of Naval Aviation]. He is nominally Zonker Harris's uncle [Steve Wilkin's godfather], although early in the Doonesbury [Air Warriors] continuity he was established as a Harris family friend [AW immortal], making him an "uncle by courtesy" only. Duke himself seems to remember winning Zonker in a poker game [ignoring Steve W in a wardroom once]. Duke's [A4s] appearance and mannerisms are heavily based [were the basis for the Doonesbury strip Uncle Duke and not] on the late gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson. Between 7 March 2005 (roughly two weeks after Thompson's suicide) and 12 March 2005, the strip even ran what was referred to as a tribute, with Uncle Duke lamenting the death of the man he called his "inspiration." [which was done a cover for the privacy and self-effacing nature of A4s] The first of these strips [1] featured a panel with artwork similar to that of Ralph Steadman, who illustrated Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas [again to draw attention away from the life A4s maintains between the Rock and the Territory].

Some people regard Uncle Duke [A4s], a rabid controlled-substances buff [lime squeezing], as "the High Lord of Inner Space," [as a living God or at very least immortal] but he is really, as his son [Steve W] would describe him, "Forrest Gump's evil twin", a devious and hardworking scam artist [Naval Aviator] with a cynical sense of humour.

Duke's [A4s] early life is murky, but it is almost certain that he had a father, and was born in a hospital [true]. "Duke" [A4s] was the only name he was ever given [a convenient moniker], although the back of the Doonesbury book "Death of a Party Animal" gives his first name as Raoul (a name Hunter S. Thompson often used for himself in his books). He recalls that he was born wearing Ray Ban sunglasses, and is almost never seen without them.

Are you confusing Uncle Duke (from Doonesbury) with "The Duke"?

Certainly Not!

Wanted to make sure you didn't misquote 'The Duke" when you meant "Uncle Duke"
