Some good pics of the flying Vulcan XH558 on her return to her old home base of RAF Waddington here .. http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3611 .. in the background of one of the landing shots you can see XM607 which was the airframe that dropped on Stanley Airport with Martin Withers at the helm. She was looking really shabby for a long time but has happily been repainted and stands proudly as a gate guard at her old home base. XH558's future isnt too rosy though as it doesnt look like the funds for her to fly next year are there .. bit sad. The Pilot pictured was an Instructor at the Central Flying School at Scampton while I was there, a true gent. Had a lot fewer wrinkles as I recall though.

The Vulcan being supported by Bruce is XL426 and she is slowly returning to power, good thread here showing some Pics of the old girl and some of Bruce giving a quick talk to the restoration guys .. http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3877http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3877

We also have some live Lightnings here in the UK under preservation and they still do twilight reheat (or afterburner as you would say !!) runs to raise funds to build the shelters in the background .. http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3266

Thought these pics may interest.

From the top view, that thing looks like a really big paper airplane I used to make in school.

Does a bit doesnt it ??

Then again most of the aircraft designed by us Brits in the 50's and 60's seemed to have a rule that it must consist of straight edges meeting at ridiculous angles. Well apart from the Hawker Hunter but even a blind squirrel catches a nut occasionally.
