Vt-4, -10

We need T-6 Avatars
I have heard some of the stories about VT-4 and VT-10. So now my question: is it pretty much totally random which squadron you end up in for primary, or is there some method to it?

there is a method but that method is mostly random...in that it all depends on when you check in and how many there are in front of you and which week you finally pick up...

The most recent group of people to class up, half went to VT-10, the other half went to VT-4. It is generally pretty random unless you know someone. I know one guy who got to pick his squadron and he was able to get another guy in the same squadron with him. If you cozy up to the ladies that make the class up list each week you might be able to get the squadron you want.

As a side note, I'm not sure one is better than the other. They both have their pros and cons as any command will, but one is not necessarily better than the other. Instructors come and go and commands change. In the end I guess it just depends on what things you prefer.

Haven't been a part of either, but there is no telling which squadron will be better especially because of the command and instructor turnover that may occur during your time there.

Currently, -4 is a better training environment. Seriously...let the yelling begin.

I was just recently classed up. All the classes are divided up equally. Most people are just picked randomly. There are a few people that get what they want but that is usually a special case. If you bug the ladies about where you want to go, IT WON'T HAPPEN. The STUCON lady is awesome unless you really piss her off but it is hard to do. It also does not matter where you start out at because in the end, you will still get your wings if you have earned them.

I'm still just hard-pressed to believe that primary is anything more or less than what you make of it... the difference between VT-4 and -10 in the grand scheme of things is so minor...

if you manage to dodge "yelling" or whatever in Primary, you'll still get it later (and be less immune to it). Karma is a mother.

All I remember is the quote that was on everyone's mind when I was in -10. You walk into the ready room.....and your soul dies....It was hilarious. You would go into -4's ready room and dudes would be laughing and generally excited to fly and then you would walk down the hall, grab some popcorn and walk into -10's ready room. Everyone would have their heads down, filling out a jet card, or putting those stupid stickies on their VNAV charts. The only guys who would smoke and joke would be the T-1 dudes because they only had a few flights left and then they would be outta there. I don't know...Maybe things have changed in a year...but I doubt it. I knew it was going to be rough when we got an email about flight suit etiquette (sp). Huh? As long as the zipper isn't at your crotch...who cares? Let's go flyin...OH well. Just my 2 cents.

The atmosphere of each squadron seemed fairly similar when I was there. Ten was pushing its people through at a quicker rate, so their folks were a little more burned out. There certainly was a lot of coking and smoking happening.........in between putting those stupid stickies on of course. I don't really know why we put those on. The preflight winds were always wrong anyways.
