Vehicle purchase on deployment?

Base MSRP for a Cayman S is around $59k. Base MSRP for a 911 is around $76k.

Single Captains do ok, but not that ok.

You gotta want it...

I would usually be the last guy to recommend going with a less expensive vehicle with the smaller engine, but I prefer the mid engine Porsches. (The GT3 and GT2 are excluded from that comment).

Now if you could get Porsche to build the Boxster/Cayman with the 3.6L dry sump GT3 motor... oh don't get me on that soapbox.

The keyword is "leftover", especially in this economy. Porsche's website will link you to the inventory for every dealer. I focused on searching dealers close to major metropolitan areas figuring they would have more inventory and, consequently, be more willing to deal. The dealer I found in Ct had 10 leftover Boxsters on their lot - it was early January and they had just gotten their first big dump of snow. In less than five minutes on the phone they had accepted my offer and taken a credit card deposit. Got a one-way ticket up there and had a fun road trip home. Two years later Juice applied the same approach and enjoyed basically the same savings. In his case he elected to have it delivered. I doubt you will find that degree of discount on a 911, maybe not a Caymen either, but the fundamentals of finding a good deal still apply.

100% agree with Waldo on the mid-engine - it's the purest expression of a Porsche and the handling is superb.
