USCG Direct Commission Aviator (DCA) Info Session at Fort Hood - 11 December 2014

A few of us in the Houston area will be coming to Fort Hood on 11 December 2014 to host a DCA info session. It is a great opportunity to speak with current Coastie aviators (some DCA's) about the process in person. The event will be held on Thursday, 11 December 2014 from 1100-1300 hours in the Oveta Culp Hobby Soldier and Family Readiness Center, Room 121C, Bldg. 18000, Battalion Ave., Fort Hood, TX. Please share the attached flyer with any peers that may be interested in attending. The briefing is strictly for military aviators (or those that have recently separated). Info has been passed to my fellow aviators at Hood. I'm also pushing this to a LT I currently serve with here in AFG that is looking for guidance.

Why can't you have more than 10 yes of AD?

Ralph, their reasoning is that they want to make sure that you'll still have at least 10 good years to give the USCG before you retire.

I admit to being intrigued by this thread. Is the USCG actively enticing USA RW aviators to their side? No biggie...but if anyone who really knows wants to shed any light…that'd be cool.

To answer your question, is the USCG beating down the doors of Army aviators to come over to the dark side?No, because the competition is so stiff that the USCG knows that there are plenty of Army aviators that might give their right lung to make the switch. So why are we hosting this event, you ask? Because as a former DCA, I remember how daunting the process was and how we (other fellow DCAs from the Army) had no one to really go to for help/questions/guidance as we went through the application process. I initiated this event to help others, not because the USCG asked us to.

As a prior USN aircrew I have tried to tell my fellow USA warrant buds why they should look into this, and as I sit here on yet another year long AFG tour, I would still give my right lung to switch over.

Great session yesterday at Forrt Hood, though I expected to see more guys there. If you'd like to see the event held again in the Spring, let me know a good time/date/location that would would better for everyone's schedules. I didn't know that you are not allowed to take lunch before 12 noon on Fort Hood (who the hell makes up these rules?)....in the Coast Guard, if you are hungry, you take lunch....it's just that simple.....just another reason to make the change!
