Stick with me here...
15000/187 = 80.2 hours/F-22 airframe last FY
~7000/7 = 1000 hours/EP-3 airframe last FY
AVG F-22 sortie length = (and I'm guessing...1.8 hours?)
AVG EP-3 sortie length = 8.5 hours

AVG sortie count per airframe last FY F-22- 44.55
AVG sortie count per airframe last FY-EP-3- 117.65

He said they have 15,ooo hours "since September 11". I have to assume they mean September 11 of last year, not September 11, 2001. In that case it's only been eight months. Also, the last jet off the production line was only delivered about a week or two ago so they didn't have the whole 187 during that time. Also the entire fleet was grounded for a while.

Are you an Air Force troll? :D

Fair enough...8 months I'll grant you. As for the grounding, that only illustrates my point.

Maybe the 60 min interview is getting some traction . . .

http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2012/05/panetta-f-22/#more-80728

I guess it's time for the Navy (and NASA) experts to help solve AF problems:
wired.com said:
And the Air Force will both work with the Navy and NASA to figure out the Raptor’s mysterious engineering flaw — whose root cause the Pentagon still does not know — and must now give Panetta monthly reports on its progress.

We live in interesting times....I wonder if the F-35 will be plagued with similar issues.

This is my first post and it's well intentioned, I'm not an expert only an enthusiast interested in the obogs issue, so here's my fifty pence, I suspect I may get a good ribbing here :)
I'm wondering if it possible that cockpit air (even aftershave droplets) can be concentrated by sweat which then passes into the lungs as vapour under certain conditions, or through the skin causing these inconsistent problems with air purity.
If this was found to be the case, then perhaps purging the cockpit air completely/removing aftershave before takeoff would be the solution to create a 100% sterile environment. i.e. the original air from the cockpit is the problem - or even possibly suspect aftershave...

By that reasoning everyone who uses some type of aftershave and who sweats inside of their mask would go hypoxic... I sweat like a fat kid jumping rope in the attic, I use an aftershave lotion after I shave in the morning and I fly an OBOGS airplane. I have yet to become hypoxic.

Also, the air in the cockpit is constantly being pumped in and cycled overboard via the ECS system. It's not as though you seal the canopy and the air in the cockpit is all you get until you're done flying.

Maybe I'm slow, but sometimes I really believe that some frequent AW posters have an alternate identity and intentionally post stupid shit.

I finally found an aircraft less threatening to the enemy than the Orion: The F-22! nice job, air force.

Our aircraft carriers have lasted longer than a majority of our very expensive overseas air bases.
