Just got back from Northern Edge 2019. It hasn't gotten any better. My last mission planning our Escort Package Commander kept saying "over-cranium" instead of "overhead". I wanted to scream at him through the VTC cam...
I can't remember who it was, but someone told me awhile back that they actually had a controller on the way back from the NTTR tell them "turn right skulling 180" or somesuch. Because nonstandard comms won't create a potential safety of flight issue or anything . . .

"Say again your last." (first response)
"Time and initials. Put your supervisor on this frequency." (second response)

(It wouldn't get this far, but if they kept it up then you can always squawk 7600 and fly what you briefed... BTW, that squawk will make an annoying buzzer go off, constantly, on every radar scope for a couple hundred miles around. Which, BTW^2, is why the canned IFR lost comm brief is actually pretty stupid in reality.)

I would always talk to studs about the same thing with 7700 when already talking to someone. Sure, you can switch to guard and hit EMERG, but now your lost comms and when someone does finally talk to you, the first thing that's going to happen is they're going to tell you to turn off 7700.
