Travel to OCS in a non-traditional "POV"

I'll put Navy stickers all over it so they'll be distracted. I'll paint the whole thing Navy Digital. It'll blend right in.

Considering the general feelings towards the NWU pattern on this board and the rest of the fleet, I don't know if this would be advisable ;-). However, if you were to paint SEAWARRIOR on both sides you might get a pat on the back...

From the DOD: http://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/otherratesMile.cfm
Mileage rates for

Car: $0.565
Motorcycle: $0.535
Airplane: $1.33

Mileage (Allowance) for using a privately owned conveyance (POC) for local/TDY and PCS travel are reimbursed as a rate per mile in lieu of reimbursement of actual POC operating expenses. The following rates are the basic TDY mileage rates for the three POC types (Car, Motorcycle, and Airplane) and the PCS MALT rate for which the government provides a mileage allowance.
Great gouge…but what if the POV airplane isn't "owned" by the traveler? Don't know what OP's situation is…rental, or "friend owned".

The rate for POV (car) is $0.24 since it is considered a PCS move and not a TDY. I thought it was a TDY move, but I was corrected when I finished my transfer package to OCS.

Just FYI

There are different rates for airplane reimbursement...you receive these when you do your travel claim. Several IPs here in Meridian fly their private planes on det in lieu of flying commercial because the rates are cheaper for the command to pay for.

Call PSD in Newport and make sure you are authorized to use private air travel to arrive for OCS...it they say yes then do it.

Better to ask for forgiveness than permission?

Even if they only paid me at the PCS travel rate http://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/otherratesMile.cfm it would still help with the expenses a little and it doesn't specify what mode of POC I have to use.

I was exploring my options and I think I may be able to save up for a motorcycle just in time for OCS.

This one looks pretty sweet:

Get a bicycle and race helicopters instead. :D (It's a lot cheaper.)
