I am currently attending Embry-Riddle, but am contemplating transferring back home to the University of Arkansas. My delima is as follows. Staying here at Riddle it will cost me around 70 grand and 2 years to finish my 4 year degree, I will have a technical degree and my GPA here is a 3.7. I didn't get a pro rec the last time I applied. (Test scores) However, I can transferr back to the UofA and finish a non technical degree for only 5 grand and in 1 year. There I can go to a local flight school and go all the way up to CFI for 23 grand. Costs and fun factor point toward the UofA. But I am concerned that if I do so It will hurt my chances at a flight slot. How much will the technical degree and the Riddle name help me. Oh, also my GPA is a lot lower at the UofA (only a 3.1). Will applying in that part of the country where not a lot of people apply, help me? Asked my family and many others. They weren't the biggest help, and I know that there are a lot of knowledgeable people on this board. If anyone has any insight it will be much appreciated.

Just curious about why your GPA would dip from 3.7 to 3.1 by going from Riddle to Arkansas. Also, why not finish a technical degree at Arkansas? Is it not offered? Also, another thing to look for, is that most universities require that your last 60 credits (4 semesters) be taken there in order to graduate. Make sure you know what Arkansas' policy is.

ya, I have 109 creddits toward a BA in Psych at the UofA. If I picked up a technical major It would take another year. I transferred to Riddle to major in Aero Sci and they only took 40 credits. Those GPA's were not cumulitive they are for the individual schools (navy looks at cumulitive). I was saying that going to Riddle the next few years, and maintaing my GPA it would bring up my cumulitive to around a 3.5. Messed around my first few semesters at AR and got a lot of B's. Word to all you freshman out there. Once you get a lot of credits its next to impossibe to bring your GPA up. Start early.

Let's put it this way, if Riddle is going to cost you 70 Gs for 2 years, and Razorback U. is going to cost you 5 grand a year. Why not spend 2 years there to get a technical degree? It'll be a lot cheaper, a 3.1 in a tech degree isn't bad, and a technical degree will open more doors down the road.

Thats true. Thanks man, appreciate it. I talked to my OSO today and he said that he would go to UofA, he said that my package was pretty solid if my test score comes up and that a non-technical degree wouldn't really hurt my package. That was the main thing I was worried about.
