Hey everyone, I was wondering what are chances of getting fighters (Hornet/Tomcat primarily) as opposed to getting fighters in the AF. I would fly whatever is offered but AF recruiters are telling me Navy is mostly Helo/Props and that if I want Fighters let alone jets then I should go AF. Any direction and/or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

That's why the call them "recruiters!" Ask them what percentage of their pilots fly transports:C141,C-17,C-5,KC-10,KC-135,C-130. Get my point? Your luck is the same regardless of service. Frumby

I'll give you a rough estimate on how the Air Force breaks it down.
30% fighters/Bombers
20% C-130(all types)
>40% tanker/airlift(KC-135/C-17/ETC..)
<10% Helos(SAR/SpecOps)
This is an estimate, but I'd say I'm pretty close. Also, selection is highly influenced by your instuctor, even more so than your scores. Hope this helps.

I lost the numbers for pilots. I could probably get them from a pilot friend, but due to laziness, I'll tell you plus or minus 5%....
Helos 45%
Jets 30%
Props 25%
I have the exact numbers for NFO's for FY02 and 03, so if anyone cares about that, let me know.

MVS26,
I would be very interested in the exact numbers if it wouldn't be too much trouble. Also, will it just depend on the particular year as far as what aircraft the Navy is trying to fill? Thanks a lot!
