This is the source of the presentation. It very well could have been part of a grad student's project or an internal document. I don't believe it was an official Navy presentation. There probably would have been a logo on the master slide and most probably an introduction page to start.

Just because the article site found it on a navy.mil website, they took it as official doctrine. You can find a lot of thesis and dissertation type documents on the NWC and NPS websites. All research papers.

I threw up in my mouth a little when I saw the report. "Alien life force?" Whoever wrote it is seems like one of those strange, verbose yet antisocial people. People who aren't necessarily bad, just hard to tolerate.

Before reading that post, I myself was concerned about this website. I am a member of it and I do not use it much other than keep intouch with some old shipmates. People have their email address, DOB, phone numbers, rates, NECs, command history etc... on their personal pages. I'm a crypto (hence creepto ) and it bothers me that a lot of other ct's that I know put their NEC's and such publicly on their pages. Just like what that link says, that information is not classified per se, but add it with other indicators someone could paint a clear picture on what is going on. I've seen many people post their upcoming deployment dates and worst, anyone can join the website very easilly and publicly see that info.

That website's nothing but trouble and a HUGE OPSEC violation imho.

Just as a matter of clarity and doctrine, the things you listed are OPSEC issues and CI (counterintelligence) issues. I know you know the difference, but it is a pet peeve of mine that everyone throws around the term OPSEC as a blanket statement to cover safeguarding all kinds of unclassified information.

While what you say is true, you just can't control every aspect of people's lives like that in the information-based world we live in today. Price of progress, I suppose. Bottom line - people's info is out there and if someone wants it badly enough, they're going to find it.

First, my husband thinks the site is eh. okay...but he's not going to pay money for it. Second, I agree with Brett- "people's info is out there..". Just look at how many times we hear about social security fraud... and how many times we have to repeat our social security or the last 4 digits when on a govt base/mil site- PX upon signing up needed the ssn- and it goes beyond that with other business that need to confirm you identity. "If someone wants it bady enough, they're going to find it."

Concur. I looked up my name on one of these internet people searches and it listed my current home address as public info. Guess I shouldn't own a house and should live on the street so terrorists can't find me.

I think its a great site. I have been able to get in touch with people I've been stationed overseas with that otherwise I would have never talked to again. I mean seriously, its $1.66 per month. I think thats a pretty fair price to pay simply for the upkeep of the website.

You can choose not to put your information out there, same as myspace. You provide as much information as you want the other members to view. You can protect yourself.
