She's still a Naval Aviator and an Officer.

For someone to take a hobby/passion and reach the highest level you can with it is pretty impressive. To part of an NFL franchise in any way is no easy feat. While pursuing a Master's at the same time?

This feels like "The Player Haters Ball"...

or Bizarro World, since I can't remember ever not agreeing with rare21...

My only question is "What does this do for the officer community as a whole?" David Robinson was an athlete that the Navy used as a recruiting tool. How does cheerleading help her or the Navy? I'm not knocking her I'm just curious as to the motivies? I guess I'm just miffed because you don't expect to see an academic half neckid and shaking pom-poms. Seems like it is divided loyalties... NFL stuff takes a lot of your free time. Another wierd point or I guess question, what is she doing at NPS for more that 2 years? Generally they pump you out in 12-18 months.

The Playboy poser was an Officer (and so was her husband). She was discharged as I recall.

Ok, I'm not crazy. Found this one that I remember seeing an issue of:

A former Pearl Harbor-based Navy petty officer says she was discharged because she posed nude in the September issue of Playboy magazine.
Sherry Lynne White, 26, who had served in the Navy for eight years, said she was discharged for misconduct under honorable conditions on July 9 .

"I felt I wasn't doing anything wrong by posing," White said. "I'm not making the Navy look bad by having those pictures there."

White most recently had served as a naval information systems technician second class as part of the Commander Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.

Lt. Cmdr. Dave Werner, a Navy spokesman at Pearl Harbor where White was stationed, said both the Navy and White agreed to the discharge.

He would not say if the Playboy pictures played a part in the discharge

The lieutenant posed, among other things, in her unfastened flight jacket, exposing herself to charges under Navy uniform regulations

The young lady in question was a Nav.

If it isn't a conflict of interests with her studies, who cares. Motives? I dunno, you are allowed to have interests and activities outside of the Navy, and they don't all have to be of some benefit to the service.

Seems like a lot of speculation. How do you know how she manages her time? You're talking about someone who has already proven herself (unlike a lot of people taking jabs on here). If she's getting the work done, who cares what her hobbies are. Your job at NPS is to get the degree, you have no other "official duties". As far as 'NFL stuff', not all cheerleaders go to away games, maybe she does the home stuff, but see, I'm speculating...

Beats me. I never went there. I was stationed in Monterey for DLI and had plenty of buds going through NPS. From what I saw, failure isn't an option over there. Additionally, there are programs that take longer and some that are shorter.

I think she (the cheerleader) was on Oprah sometime last year with her husband, also a pilot. That might explain the reference to Oprah as a role model. No I don't watch Oprah, my mom told about it.

Dude take it easy... Seriously, I am just curious and not poking fun. I know what the NPS life is like, it is/was the model for STA21 (sort of). I was just curious because we still have a lot on our plate and time restrictions that usually prevent side jobs. So I was just curious if she had some "deal" worked out like David Robinson.

Well maybe somebody can help us out becuase I thought that the longest you could stay there was 18 months. I'm not being hostile I curious (again) becuase I would like to do a stint there on my JO shore duty.

Lotta sh!t talk, considering she's winged, Plane Commander, and got into NPS.

Just a thought guys.

Definitely a lot of mouthing off from individuals that aren't commissioned officers nor winged and warfare qualified aviators.

My thoughts, not like there is much job security in P3 land right now for our year groups, so, good for her.

As for the SERE comment, Cate, no offense, but I don't ever want to go through SERE school again, it was a kick in the nuts, and I would list it up there in my accomplishments also, along with Winging and Navy Dive school.

No kidding! I didn't post this so you guys could poke fun at her. I figured it would actually be a positive thing for you aviator types. I found the link over at SailorBob.com, and to tell you the truth, the SWO's think it's friggin awesome that she's doing this. Truth of the matter is she has a pretty impressive resume. Math major from USNA, she's now at NPS (Naval Postgraduate School for the unitiated) out in Monterey, CA. All week in school, cheerleading practice on Sat and games on Sun. That's a hell of a workload and she's only getting $100 per game. She actually has a passion for this stuff, and you guys are making fun of her for it.
