Some jobs have wage structures based on tipping. But which jobs those are can be confused with jobs that can appear very similar. Such as waiter and barista. Or maybe some people think that because FAs bring them drinks that they should be treated as waitresses.FA's are already paid to do a job.
What is it with tipping in this country? Everyone wants a handout for a job for which they are already paid.
You should tip waiters and waitresses if tipping is part of their pay and the service was good.What's worse is when in a US restaurant or cafe the tip is *expected* and you are shamed if you don't - in my example shamed if you don't put $1 in the jar for a $2 coffee....
Even if the employee makes the "tipped wage" of $2.13/hr, if their wage + tips falls below the national minimum wage of $7.25/hr, the employer is required by law to make up the difference. I'm fairly certain that even if you tipped your barista, they would find several other legitimate reasons to shame you.
