Whomever put the media in their presentation, would anyone really expect a lay person to be able to tell the difference from looking at it? At the end of the day, the DNCC is responsible, but it could just as easily have happened to the RNC, or the Libertarians or the Tea Party or Ralph Nader or the Providence City Council.

It's funny, and we should laugh at it, but we shouldn't use it to characterize it as a means to establish the "military street cred" of any organization.

Oh, I absolutely agree with that. Like I said, it just plays into the narrative. Also, if they were looking for a badass ship with a bunch of weapons on it, they should have gone with the KIROV CGN. They basically stapled every weapons system in the Soviet arsenal to that one.

I wouldn't expect the average person to know the difference between an Arleigh Burke or a Sov, but how hard is it to google US Warships? I think it is funny though and is a very awkward mistake for them. The best comment from the Navy Times article: "This is like your wedding day and you post a picture of your ex-GF for all to see, instead of your wife."

Re:
Eh, all this does is play into the existing narrative that the Democrats don't understand things military.

Then Senator Obama "Obama knew (the Surge) for certain was only going to worsen sectarian strife there. (See 2007 video here.)....

LA Times on Vice President Biden in 2010:
Now, the Obama-Biden pair that opposed the Iraq war and its tactics and predicted their failure is prepared to accept credit for its success.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/was...update-larry-king-iraq-obama-sarah-palin.html

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid: "This war is lost", 2007
http://www.cbsnews.com/2100-250_162-2709229.html

then Speaker of the House Pelosi: Iraq"is a failure"., 2008
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0208/8422.html

then Senator Murtha: Marines actions "worse than Abu Ghraib," calling their actions war crimes committed "in cold blood.", 2006

Perhaps the narrative exists because statements like the ones above don't buff out too soon.

You're talking about the geopolitical repercussions of military involvement, though, and that's different from understanding the military itself. But if we're going down that road, a lot of Democrats favored going into Iraq in 2003. I'm actually not picking a side, though. I am an equal opportunity skeptic.
