if they didn't only man around 30 people to maintain those new littoral ships, I wouldn't mind working on one.

Yeah ...no shit & roger that -- as in ... who's gonna' clean the heads???

The 1st LT ... ???
:D

No kidding. The Freedom was on the pier next to us and it looked horrible with running rust and just general filth. I was told (by my DH) that due to the low manning, there isn't enough people in Deck Div to clean and paint. If that is true, I can only guess how the plants are going to look in the next 5 years or so. Technology is great and all, but until there are robots in the bilges preserving, we need people.

You are mistaken. No really, back in '99, I asked an admiral about this at some brief we had. He assured me this was not going to be a problem. I mean, he wouldn't have been spinning this, would he?

I dunno, I tend to believe everything the uppers have to say, especially when it comes to CBT's opposed to hands on school training (Had to gag through some admirals whose name I forget presentation about this during a SNA luncheon), manning levels (we are down to like 50-70 people on our ship alone, or as my DH put it during Ultra-E "The size of this dept now is the size I had for GSE's and GSM's alone on USS lastship") and so on. Once I can get some robots to scrub vertigre, paint bilges and other general preservation that eats up a lot of my divisions time when they could be doing repairs, I will agree to cut down manning and training. Maybe, we should just have USV's? Imagine a DDG with no crew, but driven by one OOD somewhere in Kansas? That would awesome, expect for the Kansas part.

They're starting small, but getting bigger all the time...and they're driven out of Pt Loma, which beats Kansas and Creech AFB hands down.
