The SHOW: Airlines still a "good gig"??

Other articles said they were at 700' when it was opened. If accurate, the list of "breathing" and "rapid decompression injuries" seems completely overblown.
If there was a significant pressure differential then the door wouldn't open. If there was not a significant pressure differential, then there was no rapid decompression.

But it makes for a better story and lays the groundwork for lawsuits if folks freak out.

I’d wager a lot of that is from the same crowd that hyperventilates every time there is a 20 minute delay for “paperwork”. Maybe some of them are hunting for a settlement from the airline.

Opening a door in flight is a big deal (and, I would have previously thought, impossible). But if you’re belted in, you’re going to be just fine.

Not a bus guy but apparently on the airbus at about 600-700ft the pressure differential drops to zero. When the doors are armed they’re hydraulically assisted to open so it helps to get to the 200lbs of force required to open (as could be seen by the slide deployment) to overcome the air loading in flight.

An extraordinary documentary of a widebody global ferry crew - multiple types, around the world, no sleep, Part 91. What could go wrong. Perhaps a post retirement gig for some. Fascinating.
