As some of you know, we're currently on a family visit "road trip" visiting family...now at daughter's place in BUF, on her computer...I'll email myself at home attn this thread, and in a couple weeks revisit it and add much more VQ info, with links and info from my PC at home...BTW, VQ-2 called it the "WV-2Q"...maintained and operated the radar aboard it, as well as the ECM P4s & P2s. Long live FAIRECONRON 2!! ;-)

There's more to it if you read on. She was hit by a 500lb laser guided paveway, then 7 harpoons, and finished off by gunfire.

I agree. "Red Crown" was a destroyer or cruiser that controlled the air war over the North from the North SAR location. I suppose an EC-121 may have taken control if the ship's radar went down, but I never heard of it.

IIRC, "Big Look" was the AF's EC-121. And "Deep Sea" was the Navy's EC-121, or VAQ A-3s........ our Spooks in the air.

If The Chief is around, he can set us all straight.

Of course never to be forgotten, the EC-121 intentionally shot down by the North Koreans in 1969. All 31 Americans onboard were killed. And the North Koreans not only admitted it, they bragged about it. And got away with it.

Anyone here know about PR24 going down in Da Nang? I work with a guy who says he was in country with VQ 1 at the time and I'm trying to find a bit more info about this incident in 1968.

Sounds about par for a SINKEX. But didn't any helos get to play with Hellfires or subs with torpedos or did I miss something?

I didn't see anything about Hellfires or torpedos, but the ex-USS Monticello and ex- USS Anchorage were also sunk.
