Yeah, but either some Devil Dog got the super-slick tigerstripes on his helmet, or that's not a Marine in the left seat.
I'm going that the Marine got Flight E to build him a sweet helmet cover.

To my knowledge, we only send F/A-18 guys and Air Support Controllers to Australia.

And we delivered the mail to you... IIRC, that would have been 1976 around the end of the year. VR-21 sent us in a C-118, Subic - Darwin - Sydney - Hobart. Long ass flight, crazy libs in Sydney, and the dang bridge across the bay in Hobart was out so it was a 2 hour ride into Hobart. Seriously cut into our liberty time as it was a RO1N...:icon_rage

Went back to Subic with NO RON's... :icon_rage:icon_rage:icon_rage

Hope you enjoyed yer letter...:)
Thanks for the letters. But we were almost "too busy" to read our mail. :D ;)

Yes it was Nov. '76 IIRC. 2nd ever F-14 operational cruise. We had more visitors to the "Big E" (which was anchored out) than the whole town of Hobart (population well over 200,000.) and maybe the whole island of Tasmania. (People were flying in from the mainland for an Enterprise tour.)

And everyone had more invites than they could handle: "Come for dinner", "let's go deep sea fishing", "lets fly around the island", "stay with us on our ranch", "let me introduce our daughter", reception after reception and party after party, TV interviews, Swan beer and our money was no good, a great Casino, and the women loved our Yank accents. :D All beyond description!

I'd be raging too if I had missed that liberty. Sorry. BNA :)

The former HS Wing Commander from Jax flew helos on exchange back in the day. We worked together in DC area and it only came up because Embassy would host something called "prayers" for their staff and invitees. He'd always get invited and head on down to Embassy Row where Australia beer and wine was in ample supply.

I know that guy. We were in the same squadron for the last couple months of his DH tour. I stayed at his house for the few months we were in Jax during workups, great dude.
