The aircraft with the RA on the tail is a T43. It's based out of Randolph AFB and is the Air forces trainer for KC135 pilots.

Actually the T-43 is used to train all the heavy AF navs (P3 NFOs flew in it as well when they went through Randolph). Basically 12 of those flying 1970s simulators (2B47 for the NFO types) with barely functional radar and nav equipment. They'll be phased out when the AF moves all nav/EW training to Pensacola next year; the first 2 have already been sent to the boneyard.

They worked great in 1984....and you couldn't do cel nav in the sim.

The pilots train on the T-1.

Not that it matters, I guess.
Sorry for speaking out of turn, I've worked around them and know it's a T-43. Sorry I had the rest of the info wrong.

You'd expect one to know more about them after seeing them 5 days a week for 8 years.

I'll go back to my corner and shut up now. :(

Thanks Zip, it brings back memories, those practice bombs look like MK-76's.

BTW, 1978? I'd been out for a while.:D In 1978 I was building runways at Newport News, Andrews, and Dulles as well as pissing off drivers while we widened 495 and disrupted traffic while building the Metro system. :)
