The End of the Officers Club

And keep in mind there are certain house rules in some clubs that you won't know about until you are buying a round. In the NASNI I Bar, you don't touch the model planes.

As a Mid I had a buddy learn that one the hard way. Combine that, dice, and the S-3 O-4 that was retiring and it made for one hell of a night.

No. No, man. Shit, no, man. I believe you'd get your ass kicked doin' something like that, man.

I honestly can't tell if you are joking on this one or not.

We always brought our wives or girlfriends. If you think your hometown O'Club is a place where you can get away w/ shenanigans and not get caught you're an idiot. Do that stuff on the cross country if you are so inclined.

To exclude the wife / girlfriend from your work completely will ultimately be yet another sore spot. Bringing them to the Club (at least a Club that's hopping) will be a good time for both of you. She will enjoy meeting some of your friends, introducing her to the CO or your boss will be a good thing in the long run. My first CO was a non-drinker, but he still cruised through the O-Club at least one Friday a month and stayed for a couple of hours.

Go in whatever uniform you're wearing that day. I fully support the AWG program, but for the rest of you, changing from khakis to flight suits when you weren't on the sked that day is almost as bad as when the USAF bussed the guys from 1st FW @ Langley down to Oceana and they were all wearing their bags. Pensacola's a bit different. Everyone expects the young studs to show up in their bags as soon as are allowed to.

Going home to change just gives you one more lame excuse not to come back. For more than 25 years I have used my car as my alternate dressing room, and have changed clothes in my car more often than
I care to think about, including last night. Just be prepared and keep a set of civvies in the car so you can flex w/ the crowd if they decide to bingo to a bar out in town.

Here's what amazes me. Pensacola is the easiest base to get onto without an escort. All someone needs to say is they are going to the museum and they get access. No one follows them to verify they make it to the museum. I'm surprised more of the local talent isn't getting invited to the Club on Friday nights. And, you've got one of the most laid back Base COs there.

The basics:
Don't wear your cover
Don't put your cover on the bar
Don't go behind the bar
Don't get $hit-faced
If someone you know does get $hitfaced, it is your obligation to get him / her taken care of. That means babysitting them, driving them home, or walking them across the street to the BOQ and getting them a room to sleep it off. I did all of the same for JOs, skippers, and even a Flag one time.

Used to be our SDO had a standing order to do a MiG Sweep through the Oceana O-Club on Wednesday and Friday nights to make sure everyone in the squadron got home safely. You couldn't drink since you were on duty, so you became the defacto designated driver. Or at least the enforcer to get the drunks hooked up w/ someone to get them home or worst case get them across the street to the BOQ.

We're trying, sir. And said Base CO has attempted to aid the efforts. I think this whole O-club thing is like turning a carrier; you can't do it on a dime.

Had a fairly good crowd there last night, though my herd of AF and Italian butterbars pussed out and didn't come. First round on the LT, I says. Who turns down free beer? Sheesh. :icon_tong

3 of us closed MBOC down last night...XO Feagles stuck around till the wee hours.
I hereby rescind my universal condemnation of all 0-5's not supporting the club. Until next week.:D

Feagles was a booger eater in the Buckeyes right after I left and before he went to flight school. Glad it worked out for him.

Yeah, last night was a good time at the MBOC. The API Director was saying he and an instructor or two are working on making the Friday night O Club extravaganza pseudo-mando fun for NASC studs. Although it seems like more have been coming out lately anyway.

Statesman was out in his sweet new full AWGs, with talk of wearing them to class on Monday.

I think all the "mando-fun" is half the problem, but that's just me.

It is part of the problem. Making the O-Club Fridays mando-fun will defeat the purpose of the event.

O-Club gatherings should not be mandatory. Though you should go to some for many of the reasons stated in this thread..

The Director was not implying that any club event was going to be mandatory. He has helped ensure that API classes wrapped up early on Fridays to support O-club rallys.
He's a serious O-Club traditionalist, and is one of the best AF Majors I know of over here.
He's also helping with AWG's, ensuring the word gets out that they are approved wear for API studs.
And he loves beer.:tongue2_1
