The Doctor is in! Ask a Flight Surgeon!

Might not be the correct place to post this, but I'm sort of at a loss. I ended up getting a waiver for endometriosis (which was never officially diagnosed... unfortunate medication description landed me the waiver) and it got approved. My recruiter obviously cant answer this question, but I do just want to know if this will cause issues with the flight surgeon as I'm going towards SNA ? I've read & heard a lot of conflicting information so if anyone has any insight on this it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance to those who answer ! :)

Does the NAMI guide say anything about it? You might have to “dumb” down the condition if you can’t find the specifics.

I wouldnt be worried as long as its managed regardless of a prior offical diagnosis or not. Had a friend mid flight school need a full hystorectomy due to severe endo that became unbearable regardless of medication.

Does anyone have any experience with having an eye freckle or know anyone that has one? Apparently i have one in each eye. I understand that the flight doc will have me get a waiver but i was wondering how common or unlikely they are to get

I have one. I don't know how it pertains to accessions, but as an aviator, once it was reviewed by the doc and found to just be a freckle, there was no issue. The review happened during an annual flight physical, so it wasn't anything special. I would expect them to take a closer look at them with either imagery or just dilating you.

Out of curiosity, do you have a history of participating in contact sports or do you recall taking a blow to the head? Apparently a freckle can be a result of a head trauma (it can be a minor trauma...nothing needing a hospital visit), which is where the doc and I were guessing it came from.

I played sports growing up but nothing where i would have taken a blow to the head. I was reading that its possible to be born with them too, which is what im guessing it is for my case. Did they waiver you or just say “eh, youre good”?

She just noticed it, dilated me (I wasn't due to have that happen on that year's exam) and then took a closer look. She wasn't concerned, made a note and that was it.

My takeaway, perhaps incorrect, was that no one had seen it before, so it had started to present itself, hence the discussion about some sort of trauma. I also got the sense she was also pretty sharp and a good doc, so maybe it was there before but no one was paying attention. Who knows.

I'd look at the waiver guide to see if it's in there and go from there, but no waiver for me at the time (winged aviator, 2016 or 2017 time frame).

Didn’t you post this exact question (along with any other findings from your eye exams) before?
