Hence my cautious question. Thanks for introducing me to google. We're friends now.

I believe there's a LAMPS PXO (or perhaps XO now) that went through the RAG with me as a second tour CAT 1. His first tour was as a H-3 VIP pilot w/ -51 (they used to have H-3s before they switched to the -60F), which meant he was attached to them, but never flew the LAMPS mission. For his second tour, he came back to the RAG as a stud and learned the Bravo and then went on to do his "first" LAMPS sea tour. Apparently he made it work, because I'm pretty sure I saw him on the last selection list.

(Quick threadjack) Good news for LAMPS pilots who pilots who think they'll never see VERTREP in their lives: they're throwing USNS ships down south supporting CD ops more regularly to allow ships longer underway times. We did a lot of VERTREP whenever we RAS-ed, which was awesome. I don't know if they plan to put HSC dets on those ships in the future, but until then giddyup.

Boo...Pizza hut and/or having a beer every couple of weeks is much better than your precious VERTREP.

Is there a particular reason that Vertrep is so attractive?

It allows replenishment of ships at sea and if you're only doing vertrep it doesn't require the two ships to be in as close as they would be if they were CONREPing (connected replensihment) which makes for easier ship handling.

It's also A LOT faster than CONREP.
