Not to take away the morale of this topic, but did anyone see the Father of the Marine Corps Sergeant, who sadly died, that was on the national news tonite? The Sgt.'s father was being interviewed outside his home when he said the following statement. "I want President Bush to take a long look at this (holding a picture of his son in hand) and realize what he's doing. I want him to think real hard." I was totally shocked at what this man had to say. How dare he say something to slander the President in such way. Here he is, the father of a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, for the lack of a better word "blaming" the President for his son's death. What did he think his son was going to be doing when he signed the dotted line. This man is using his freedom of speech. The very thing that the Iraqi citizens DONT have. If he were in Iraq, he would have been shot on the spot with no questions asked. And with this freedom, he is slamming the President for the death of his son, who provides that very freedom for him to speek in such a way. I'm sorry for bringing this up, but I just couldn't go without venting somewhere. If you (meaning anyone in the US) oppose the war, that's your choice and you have that right, but don't justify death, which is guranteed in war, by blaming our fine leaders who are guiding this FREE country. I'll get off my soap box now, but I would like to know if anyone else saw this. And if you did, what did you think? May God Bless the families and loved ones of the Marines and all the forces fighting to better the world.

No parent wants to outlive his children. Cut the guy some slack. I am sure that he is proud of what his son did. That doesn't make it any easier to accept, especially when you are constantly bombarded with media coverage of the war, including the names of casualties on the news ticker. Say a prayer that his grief will not weigh so heavy in his heart and that it won't have to be shared with many more loved ones.

Oh, and respect his right to use his first ammendment rights to disagree with the present leadership. After all, his son just gave his life because he believed in the ideas on which this country was founded.

The father was probably upset and rightfully so, because his worse case scenario just happened. Hopefully, someday, this man will overcome his anger and realize that his son died protecting the freedoms of this great nation, was helping a country become a free nation, and that his son will be a hero forever. Just my two cents.

I am proud to say that I support the president and our troops during both peace and war time, and I have a good friend (who is in the Air Force) right now in Saudia Arabia. God Bless them for all that they do!

To add to this, the Father, Sister, and son of SSgt. Wethers-bey were on CNN this morning with Paula Zahn. The father expressed gratitude for the words of Gen. Franks, and Sec. Rumsfeld when they offered there condolences and respects to the families of those fallen. He also said that he was opposed "in a sense" to the war because people were going to lose loved ones. He said that he was proud of his sons service and that he was doing his job. He pointed out that yesterday was a very emotional and sensitive moment. This was his only son. I doubt that any of us has the right to condemn his words in a time of such grief.

I don't condemn him or his words, I would probably say the same thing too if I were in his shoes. I feel for him and his loss.

As I look back, I probably shouldn't of have "condemned" him like you say I did. I was just raising the point. We all react to things off emotions from time to time, but this guy was pointing out the President and blaming him for his son's death. Now, if it were my son, I would be upset/angry too, but I would still have enough character to not lose my cool, and bring down our President. Granted, I see what you mean AndysGirl and Patbrown08, but I wouldnt have acted the way he did even if CNN and every other news media station had a microphone in my face. My .02 cents though. Anyways, how about these war protestors in NY City. say there's about 200,000+ there. What you guys think?

There is no sense in blaming, unless you are going to blame the real bad guys, Hussein and his henchmen. He is the whole reason we are in this mess, not President Bush.

A friend of mine brought up a really good point tonight at work, she said that initially she did not support the war, but now that it has started and there is nothing we can do to stop it, we should be standing behind our troops 100%, which she does. These people should get over it and start supporting the troops.

My personal opinion is that it is pretty darn sad that it takes a war to get support for the troops from liberals, we should be supporting our troops all the time. I know that I am lumping liberals into one big group, and I am sorry for that. These brave men and women are defending our freedoms whether there is war or not and deserve our respect and support all the time. Sorry, I am just letting off some steam. I hope everyone has a great week!
