I am moving to corpus today but I have until next friday to check in. My orders say that I can collect TLE for up to 10 days. My question is, does this 10 day period begin AFTER I check in or does it start as soon as soon as I get there?

You can get up to 10 days in a combination of departure location and Corpus.

I got reimbursed for 6 days in Corpus and 4 days in Mayport

Provided you take no leave enroute, the 10 days after check-in.

Your 3 days enroute are PerDiem at $99ish a day, to cover hotels.

OK...so if I want to collect on the TLE, I MUST check in first. So, say I get there on sunday, check in on monday, I will then be able to collect TLE starting monday for the number of days it takes me to find a place...right?

You can get TLE as long as you have reciepts...

If you are looking to live cheap as long as possible, check in on the day specified... Not earler, you lose perdiem. You stay in the BOQ out of pocket, for $25/day. You are getting $99 a day for perdiem.

Then you check in, and save 10 days worth of BOQ reciepts. They reimburse you for the $25/day.

You could get 12-13 days paid for between Per Diem and TLE..

To be clear: It doesn't matter when you check in.

It does matter. You can only get TLE prior to checking out or after checking in. Below is from the link above.
a. before leaving the old CONUS permanent duty station (PDS),
b. after arriving at the new CONUS PDS

Until you check in you are just on leave or travel. So if you are on 10 days of leave once you get to Corpus you can not get TLE (cause you are on leave). You can get TLE once you check in if you don't have a house/apt.

You don't have to check in, you just have to be there in the location. For instance, if you were to leave Pensacola for San Diego, but are moving and selling your house:
Check out of old command, but stay in a hotel for 4 days while closing, HHG, etc.
Travel for 4 days, staying in hotel each night
Arrive in San Diego, but don't check in yet, awaiting HHG, getting housing all set, stay in Hotel/BOQ for 6 days.

You will get paid for the 4 days in Pensacola and the 6 days in San Diego, but not the travel days in between. This is to stop you from taking a government funded vacation on your PCS orders. So you can collect TLE at either your old duty station, your new duty station, or both, but not in between.

Trust me, I had to argue this point with the retards down at PSD in Pensacola. They just wanted to pay me for my old duty station and not the $1000 bill that I racked up in the Residence Inn here.

Well, whatever the answer might be, i'm staying at the BOQ and this is about the sweetest deal I have ever come across. I'm paying $25/night and its just about as good as any hotel that costs $70/night. Hopefully I will have a place by tomorrow but if I don't, i'm going to at least try to collect on the TLE and i'll let you all know how that goes.

I'm just jealous you're moving to C.C!!! GRRRRR....I want in on Texas! Yeah, so what are my chances of getting stationed there if hubby is doing AMO?

Honestly, the Q is the best bang for your buck (usually), but if you know you are going to be collecting TLE, then you have up to $180/day, so if you would rather not stay in the Q, then don't, or just move after the 10 days. I stayed in the Residence Inn in Pensacola becuase they are one of the few local hotels that takes big pets. The Q does not and when I tried to sneak a cat in there a few years back for an overnight stay, I ended up forking out $70 in "cleaning fees". Damn cat can't stay out of the window!

Fairly slim. I think there is only one operational squadron there. The rest have civilian maintainers, although I think there is a wing AMO who liasons with the contractors.
