T-6 paint job

So here I am stuck in the a-pool with nothing better to do than watch other students get to fly, including the SNFO's in their T-6's. One thing that is bothering me is the paint job: blue-on-white...just like the chair force trainers. When Whiting and Corpus finally get their T-6's in 20 years, are they also going to be the blue-on-white, or will the Navy finally paint them the orange-on-white like all their other trainers...the way they've always done it (except when the plane's were all yellow way back when)??? Is anyone else put off by the current paint job, or is it just me???

Actually, I'm more put off by the clown paint job.

They're working on it. The big thing being its an Airforce plane i dont know if that has anything to do with their colors or not. As far as us getting it. They are "allegedly" looking to get them in Whiting 2009. My understanding is that the problem is that T-6's dont have Beta. That puts a hamper on split field ops.

Who needs beta? Just split the field left/right instead of first half/second half. It's 200 feet wide, Florala is only 75 feet wide and the T-6s do that all the time.

And blue and white looks better than orange and white ANY day.

I would have to agree that blue and white looks better...but if for no other reason I am sure it will change to orange and white before too long...

I would like to see it change if for no other reason than the fact that its the AFs color scheme...

Personally, I think T-6s just look goofy. Capable, but still goofy. I never understood why the AF has different colors for all its aircraft and the Navy is uniform. Orange and white, besides being easy to see, is also an indication of being a non-combatant. Something important when flying over the buckshot filled skies of lower AL.

Just be sure to avoid that alpacha farm...Orange and White there might as well be a giant target...

I fly over that all the time, nice and low. Then I throw out a note saying, "If you enjoyed the low pass, call HT-8/18 and express your gratitude." I'm sure they appreciate it.

I believe from reading another post on the subject that the aircraft come frm the OEM painted that way - per the specification. Since it's an AF managed program.

Kowing how these things work I bet it's a major effort to gte the paint config changed to Orange and White.


Anyone remember the Yellow and White T-34C's at Whiting in the mid 80's? We called it the "bumble bee" experiment. About 100 aircraft and it looked awful.
