T-45C Replacement

I think they should take the mobility students and have them rent some civilian multi-engine thing and just crisscross the country, visiting all of the military bases with airfields. We might lose a few, but what an experience. The sort of thing that makes aviators, as opposed to just pilots.
All USAF now do "IPT" in 139 days - FAA Private Pilot + Instrument Rating in a 172 or equivalent, then "Commercial" equivalent Multi Engine rating in the PA-44 Piper Seminole or Diamond DA-42. FAA Ratings awarded: Private Pilot ASEL, Instrument Airplane, Private Pilot AMEL. FAR Part 61

and then 108 days in T-6 both SIM and aircraft - 50 hours sim and 55 flying hours in the actual jet.

Oh, they call C-130s and MQ-9s "jets" too. "We're stepping to the jet in 5." I giggle each time.
So strange. Is it jet envy, or is it like the debriefing flights in present/future tense I was taught to do in the Navy… one of those weird little “isms” to help prove you’re “in”?

I think it's just a cultural norm that started when every pilot in the USAF flew both the T-37 and the T-38. Everything was a jet when they were students. So that's what they called airplanes.
