I was just curious who here has a sword, where you got it, and any you might have for someone looking to buy a sword? Also, if there's a good story behind the sword (father, grandfather killed a Jap in WWII with it, etc.) add that too. Thanks.

My story is not as good as Zab's .... I got mine on Middie Cruise at the Rota NEX uniform shop. Toledo steel ... made in the rain in the plain in Spain.

I did kill 4 Spaniards with it trying out my skill at sword drill/manual of arms, however.

My father has a naval officers sword that was given to him by his uncle, and which will be given to me on my commissioning, and god willing will be passed on to my son. It has two names inscribed on it so far, and I am working to have my name etched into it as well.

Have one. Mom bought it for me as my graduation.commissioning present. It's a Wilkinson, and the company recently stopped making swords. May actually be worth a bit more than my Mom should have paid for it.

I got my sword at my commissioning from my father (05...supply corps). Just like A4, he got his sword on a Med Cruise and it was made in Spain, and I hope to pass it on one day. It's sweet, but I won't be using it for a while.:icon_tong

NAS Jax uniform shop.....and then only because I had too. Used for one COC immediately after purchase and has sat in a corner in the closet ever since.

I actually used mine quite a bit --- last year of NROTC, etc., etc. Governor's Day @ the UofW ... I was Battalion Adjudant.

Since then ... a few inspections; a few weddings. I also used mine to cut a couple of cakes ... Navy Birthday and all. :)

After all that combat action, mine now resides peacefully in/on a plaque that was designed to hold the sword --- gold officer's crest on it --- in my "I Love Me" room .... a.k.a. the library. :)

Hell, I only bought one because I knew I would need one for my current billet (these foreigners love to play dress-up). That said, I have to break it out at least once a month. As far as folks on 'normal' tours, most guys only need theirs for weddings. But, it'll look cool on a wall or something someday.

Got mine as an award for coolest kid in NROTC. Used it in TBS and to cut the cake at my wedding. I think it's in the closet somewhere.

I never bought a sword. (And NO, I never pilfered one either, :icon_smil )

Of the few times I ever needed one, I borrowed from one of the guys in one of many "snake ranches." Later, when married, friends in our sister squadron would always lend me theirs. Nevertheless, there were very few occasions, (less than 10?) that I ever needed one, even over a 21-year span.

Regardless, it would be nice to have one now - even if I certainly don't need one - just to add to my "I love me" room. :)
