Ah yes, Thee Officers Club (Link goes to Google Maps). Absolutely only the best Jacksonville has to offer and the weekend destination for nearly all of the young and dumb Sailors living in the barracks at NAVSTA Mayport. I keep telling myself that the next time I'm in Mayport, I'll drop in for a beer just for shits and giggles.

That used to operate under a different name and was an off-limits establishment. There was major gang activity there and a typical initiation was to kill or at least severely injure a service member that showed up there. JSO, along with NCIS, cleaned the place up and the club reopened with the new name (I have no idea if it was the same owner) and was no longer off-limits.

Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors, and I love war movies, but the CGI turns me off. Kinda feel the same as I did about Midway. I’ll probably give it a shot either way

I was thinking the same thing, but as long as the dialogue isn't as corny as Midway's I'm fine with it haha

By all means, drop by...have a beer, just don't marry one of the "artists."

I already made the mistake of marrying a crazy broad once; I'm not about to make it again.

It got cleaned up about a year after I got to Mayport. All of the other strip clubs and go-go clubs on Mayport Road got closed down due to drug sales and crime. Honestly, there are better strip clubs in Jacksonville, just none that are literally right outside the main gate. But all the strip clubs are owned by some organized crime syndicate. The Hell's Angels/whatever-the-biker-gang-is-called run a bunch of the "white" strip clubs while some other gang runs the "black" strip clubs and then there's a third gang trying to get in on the action. All of the clubs are seedy enough that if you scratch under the façade, you'll quickly see the front for money laundering and drug sales. It's still a good time, though.

Not sure if you meant the ones in Jacksonville, or all strip clubs. If you meant all, you would be 99.05% correct. I'm sure there is one somewhere that is legit, without drug sales and money laundering that are a prime source of their income, but it would be the exception. Been there and done that, but it would be the last place I used anything but cash to pay.

That doesn't surprise me. I just haven't been to enough strip clubs to have a large enough sample size to say that 99% of strip clubs are operated in that manner.

Saw the name of this thread and figured it was a bunch of ship pictures, like the other thread. Imagine my surprise when I finally looked in on this! Well done!

Note: I know nothing of these performing arts locations around Mayport. Had no idea they existed.

If you took my answer as having a negative tone, my error, that was not my intent. My insight is from my job, not being large consumer of the product myself these days. 2nd Lt GroundPounder on the other hand, could give a first person account of the goings on. In fact, when I think back on it, I have a strong desire to sit neck deep in a vat of bleach.

Dude, it's really not that serious. Supporting exotic dancers are a time-honored tradition of the Naval services.

I see nothing has changed. Back in my time at JAX (and those who know me knows that was a few years ago :) ) "T" bars were everywhere. 'Course all in my squadron at Cecil were going to Bible study classes.
Tequila's, just off Normandy near where the old gate at Cecil was, is now a convenient store/food store. It reopened a few months ago. Though I never attended a performance there, the thought of buying lunch at that place kind of gives me the Willys. Blue Angels, off of 103rd St is reopened with another name. Westside Gentleman's Club, or something like that. Cecil Field and its surroundings aren't what they used to be, which is both good and bad.

at Oceana, we never went to seedy strip bars off base, we went to see strippers at respectable joints - like the Oceana O Club

at least they kept the strippers in the smaller bar off to the side, and not the main bar that all the wives would go to

Same deal at Ft. Benning, late 80's early 90s. The I bar had entertainment on Friday and Saturday night, and the main O club bar upstairs was for respectable activities.

June's looking to be a pretty good month for the Navy in theaters.

IMO, trailer reveals the ancient theme of Odyssey 8.0: a hero and his crew vs. some evil (this time the evil as some unindentified wolfpack with infernal German voice in English via HF radio) in a place where God (as RAF, RCAF, USAAF) is forced to leave the hero alone (Atlantic Gap) in the teeth of the evil.
That destroyer should've been named Argo instead of Greyhound:D
Bet the movie will have all four stages we saw in Pvt Ryan: hero's journey, hero's search, the fortress under siege (a convoy itself in the middle of the ocean fits), and hero's sacrifice.

What years was that?

I stood gate guard there for 180 days to get my TAD time in, I loved filling out the base passes for all the fine trim going to that joint circa 88-89.???⚓️
