SWO Bubba, can quote paragraph 7? I was told SWO/IPs have the choice to stay SWO if it's desired. SWO is URL, but IP is not, right?
So if someone who comes in as a SWO/IP gets their pin, finds they love the job, and aspires to command... Hmm...
I did not know of the IP option when I put in my BDCP package. I've been excepted to the SWO program but I think I will want to go on the IP track. Is it too late?
Seafort - this is going to sound worse than I mean it - I can quote paragraph 7, but I won't. I'd rather teach you how to fish rather than give it to you easy and understanding where to find career information is critical for your career and the careers of your Sailors. If you can get on AW, you can can also click over to the Navy Personnel Command website and the MILPERSMAN section at http://www.npc.navy.mil/ReferenceLibrary/MILPERSMAN/.
Short answer to your questions: 1) if you want to stay SWO, you absolutely can, and 2) SWO is URL (111X designator) and IP is RL (182X designator).
Cheers,
Bubba
yeah, no shit.
I always found it disturbing that even many Naval officers have no clue how to get information from the MILPERSMAN.Seafort - this is going to sound worse than I mean it - I can quote paragraph 7, but I won't. What's your problem?yeah, no shit.
No problem, we just have to sit through "recruiting" briefs every week in ROTC and it's always the same thing (SWO, SWO, SWO). They can't get enough guys, or seem to keep them around long enough to command something.
Plus, I've just never heard the "what % get SWO" question from a positive viewpoint. I thought it was neat.
