How hard is it to switch designators when you're already at OCS? I want to change from a pilot slot ( I know that comment is going to make waves) to either intelligence, crypto, or with some luck specops EOD. I leave for OCS shortly( a few days).

Wow, you want to switch from Pilot? THere's been some talk about how other designators have large waits, but I don't know.

You can only switch if there is someone in your ocs class who will switch theirs with yours and they are qualified to be a pilot. Besides that, don't plan on switching.

Damn, wish I were in your OCS right now! Tell you what, I have a great job in information systems working for an airline, making great money. I'll trade you my job for your SNA slot.....Let me know how that works out!

You have about a snowballs chance in hell to switch designators at OCS just because you want to do something else. You need to work it out with the recruiter before you get here. If you get here and say that you don't want your designator anymore then they will consider it the same as a DOR. You don't want to DOR from OCS.

Paul, you classed back up yet or are you still in GTX?? Get the hell out of OCS so you can move on. Didn't you finally redesignate to Supply? I saw your package in the BATT II BOODs office when we were Candi-O's. Anyhoo, keep me up to date. Good luck.

Hey guys,

Yeah, I'm still stuck here in GTX. This place sucks ass in case anyone didn't know that already. I'm sick of the F*&^%$g DOR's here who want to screw around all the time. I got Med Up last Monday but Master Chief is keeping me here and making me do the Run-Walk program for a couple of weeks in order to help prevent any further injuries. I still don't have any definitive word as to whether or not I got into Supply. I hope I did get it otherwise they will be sending me home and I will have to reapply and start from scratch. I'll be at church tomorrow. I need to pump a bunch of excess sugar and caffeine into my veins for the week. I'll let everyone know what happens with the Supply stuff. Hopefully they'll end up adding a Supply Corps section to this website when it's all said and done. I am hoping to be classing back up with 01-03 in week 3.

Paul, would they be sending you home on a medical or because of not getting a designator? I have never heard of anybody getting sent home for non-designation. Dont they just assign you somewhere according to the needs of the nav?

Some of the information you have been given about swapping designators is incorrect. I tried to switch my designator while in OCS also. And I had friends who did the same. Generally you will not be able to switch. However, you do not have to find someone else in your class who will switch with you. The best thing to do though is to try to work it out before you leave. Talk to your recruiter and explain the situation to him. Maybe the possibility exists to move your OCS date until you get it fixed. The process at OCS is rather straight forward. You have to submit a package through the chain of command telling them why you want to switch. Not to burst your bubble, but the chances are that the Director of OCS or the CO of NASC will shoot it down before it ever leaves. If you talk to your recruiter and get in touch with the community managers you will have a better chance. You will probably catch a lot of crap about trying to swap. Especially from avaition. On the bright side, since the needs of the Navy for aviation have gone down recently, they may be more likely to release you. Most important thing is that you do what is right for you. Don't let anyone talk you into doing something you will not enjoy. And remember that this is still voluntary. But, if you pull out now, you will probably never get another shot. If you are unsure, tell your recruiter the truth and ask him to work with you. If he is unwilling, talk to someone in his chain of command. Good luck with your decision. and feel free to email me if you have any further questions. pbrown7706@iwon.com
