How do you think the rotor tip clearance was determined - he just kind of motored on in there...


Thought the same thing. Maybe if they know the slope angle, and he goes in " level " he knows they have X feet of clearance. I have no experience with helicopters other than riding in them, but I'm guessing that is much harder than he made it look.

HE/she must have judged the slope on the first approach and gauged it somehow - so on extract he/she just motored on in....

Ahh, just snow with plenty of it underneath. It’ll clean up the tips rather well if they meet. ?

Or the guy shooting the video was acting as some sort of reference point. That and a lot of training to know where the top path REALLY is
