On leave at my parents' house for Christmas, and their neighbor is an elderly military widow. We started talking about military benefits and it seems to me like she's not getting everything she's entitled to. I'd really like to help her out, so if anyone has a knowledge about military spouse survivor benefits, speak up.
Here's her situation:
She is in her 80's. She works a part time job to make ends meet. Her husband was in the Army for 33 years and retired as a CWO-4. He served in the 82nd Airborne during WW2, and I think he later served in Korea.
My questions: What benefits should she be getting? And what kind of $$$ should she be getting from the government? Also, is there a good POC that she should talk to?
Would appreciate it if anyone can point me in the right direction to some information to help this woman. She made it sound as though she doesn't get any money and has to fight to get health care benefits.
Her husband was a hero, and I'd like to help her out if I can. The toughest job in the military is the spouse. Thanks in advance,
-Greg
