sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

I'm hoping to submit for SWO i-sel within the next two weeks. Do you think there's a chance I could ship out before the end of the calendar year? From my knowledge there are 5 OCS Classes from Sept 13 to Dec 6.

I wouldn't say it's impossible, but it's very unlikely that you get slated for one of those classes. They are all already 114+ spots filled for each class. What is more likely is that you get slated for a later class, inform your recruiter/CNRC (if active) that you're interested in leaving as early as possible, and get moved to a slot if it opens up.

I've also heard of instances where individuals of the same designator coordinate with recruiter/CRNC to switch dates (i.e. if someone else was scheduled to leave before the end of CY and you were slated for later). What I don't have information on is whether I-SEL would have to switch with I-SEL, or if they draw the line at designator.

Anyone know when you actually receive your official PCS orders to your first duty station? (CSWO) Is it after OCS, or do you normally know where you’re going before graduation?

I’m currently stationed in Hawaii, and I’m planning to send my family back to Texas while I’m at OCS/training.

What I’m trying to figure out is how long they could realistically end up staying in Texas before we know where we’re moving next. I’m also confused about what happens with our household goods in Hawaii in the meantime. Do they basically just sit in the house until I get PCS orders and can schedule the move?

Anyone who went to OCS from an overseas/OCONUS location with a family, I’d appreciate hearing how the timeline worked for you. Thank you.

I can’t help with the household goods stuff, anyone who was prior can tell you what they did

You’ll get your orders about a week or so before graduation. I think if you still don’t have orders by graduation, you’ll just stay in student pool until then, but that doesn’t happen too often

You can do NTS or non temporary storage. They’ll put your hhg in a crate and then hold it til you get your official pcs orders. You call em up and they’ll send your stuff to your ultimate location. I couldn’t stay in base housing due to availability so my wife is going to stay with her family and my stuff will be warehoused in a pcs crate til I get orders to pcola at ocs.

I was accepted SWO-OCEANO for the 29JUNE board. My OCS date is 24JAN but my recruiter did put me on a list to possibly go early. I was curious how often that actually will happen, and if I have not done my security clearance screening yet, will I not even be sent until that is done? Trying to gauge when I could possibly go, I was hoping for 03OCT.

It depends, could happen. Could not happen.

For the security clearance, an adjudicated clearance is all that’s needed. If there are other requirements you shouldn’t be allowed to go to OCS.

Suggest you discuss specifics with your recruiter.

Okay thank you for the info! I was just told I need to schedule a top secret pre-interview from my recruiter but I don't know how long those take, and was hoping it was a fast process so I have a chance of leaving sooner.

1. If bringing my own towel does it need to be white?

2. Is a metal clipboard still necessary for making the bed? Heard someone say they changed the bed frames a bit so it doesn’t work
