sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

The COP has a series of yes-no questions and the way they've been explained is that, answering yes is like a demerit that likely won't but could impact your FINSEL. One of those questions is whether you've told your employer your ship date.

I also haven't been personally interviewed yet for my background check. I'll probably just tell my employer and bite the bullet on the COP form. Just wanted to see if anyone had any alternative input.

Thanks though!
Yeah idk how not telling your employer could affect you, but they’ll have to find out at some point. Either way, I’d take a look at those rights and at least kinda familiarize yourself with them in case anything happens.

FWIW, I didn’t tell my employer until everything was official and I had my orders to OCS, and that was about 2 or 3 weeks before I shipped out. I don’t even think they were interviewed because they legit didn’t know about anything until I told them.

Anyway, lmk if I can help and I’ll do my best to answer

Thanks I really appreciate that. I'm planning to tell them sooner because I'm planning on leaving a bit prior to when I'll probably get my orders mostly to move stuff home, focus on prepping some more, and do a bit of traveling (I plan to leave end of June when my lease ends and expect my orders in July and my expected OCS date is August 23).

I think you're misinterpreting the intent of the form/question. On most government (Navy) forms like this, there's always a "reverse negative" question where answering yes (or no) will be the "correct" answer when all the other questions "should" be answered the opposite. You'll see this on medical forms as well. FAA forms are like that as well. So are ATF forms.

Of all of the ways to get hung up in the accession process, I don't think answering yes to this question is one of them.

I appreciate the detailed response! I'm not worried about my employer taking adverse action when I tell them. I'm actually worried about the Navy taking adverse action against me for telling them.

Specifically, the COP says/infers that I should not tell my employer about my ship date. However, I'd rather my employer hear from me than be surprised when someone calls for a security clearance.

I guess my specific question is when should I expect someone to call my employer to ask questions for my security clearance so I can tell them in advance while answering "yes" to the COP question as late as possible.

You are still stuck on this COP form? @elariosa95 is right.
