This is what scares me. I went to my flight physical in RI. I met with other Sgts from Manhattan, and Syracuse. In my office (Albany, NY), 13 kids applied for this summer slot, 2 got accepted. In Manhattan, 15 kids applied, 1 was accepted. In Syracuse, the Sgt just said it was "Really really competitive". Its tight. But my OSO told me not to bug out. Once again, alot of ground applicants, alot less slots. 2nd, My OSO said Manhattan might have less competitive applicants. 3rd, the summer is more competitive to get in. The fact that we're aviation contracts is a big advantage. Just dont stress, just stay in shape and prep up for as if you'll get in. (But I wont lie, its hard for me to practice what Im preaching). -reaper

OSO Manhattan less competitive applicants?

This "candidate" just returned from Quantico. He was/is an OSO Manhattan selectee. He applied with other applicants from NYU, Boston Coll., Yale, Columbia, Harvard, yada yada...
Most had been multiple varsity letter winners in HS. Many were coll varsity athletes. Most had 3.5 (or better) GPA's. Most had 1st class refs.

Know what? Arrive at Quantico and it doesn't matter one stinking turd about any of the above.
You're, maybe, as good as the guy next to you. And, maybe, you'll be in the graduation photo...

So, don't go running off to some OSO cause you think the competition is less fierce, it isn't.

oh, 1 more thing before I step off of my soap box..

in answer to 1devildoc.
An applicant, (that's what you are until you pass the initial PFT at Quantico)namely me, used to worry myself to death about stats, percentages, PFT's, etc.
Follow the good advice reaper just posted, work hard & don't sweat stuff you have no control over.

Shoot, sorry about the Manhattan thing. I dont think any place is more or less competitive than another. Its all timing and the applicant pool at one particular time. I know Im competing against every kid who signed a contract. Including the other 10 at my OSO station. All I want is the chance to compete against other candidates. -G

i'm a little confused about something...
does each selection station get a certain # of slots, and you compete against other applicants from your OSS? or does the entire nation's applicants get all thrown into one pool, and the choices made regardless of geography?

thanks

I think each district gets a certain amount of slots, but as for each selection office I don't think they get diddly squat

Hey if you guys wanna find the stats from this website.. Someone needs the time to go back to past forum posts from Jan or so... Find out all the kids applying and waiting from this site. Find their stats, then see if the got in on recent posts... Just an idea.

Praying to get in 184

Of course, there is also the question of stats for how many of those who start OCS actually finish. Seems like the planned attrition is on the order of 50%.

I am currently active duty enlisted airforce. I am trying to find out what I need to do to be released from my unit to attend OCS. The recruiters I spoke to didn't help much and I know there is a form or some way of doing that. Does anyone know what % of female applicants get accepted to OCS and how that process works? Thanks

I can't say for sure but if you qualify for what your going out for you pretty much get accepted as a woman. I know my OSO's office is crazy hard up for qualified woman

Seriously? When I talked to the recruiter, he said it would be hard for me to get into OCS since I will already be a graduate when I apply. I am trying to be released from the airforce so that I can cross over. If they don't let me I have to wait till my enlistment ends..not for a few years. My SAT scores were a 1270 and I have roughly a 3.7 GPA. I am trying to enter into the flight program. My eyes are crappy so until I get PRK, I guess I would have to go for NFO. What is SNR? I keep seeing that and have no clue as to what that is.
Thanks bunches.
