To all, I appreciate the advice. Since it sounds like I will have to take no-cost orders to wherever I go, I have a couple questions about that:
1) Can I move my stuff (belongings) on no-cost orders, or any portion of it? Assuming this is an out of pocket expense, would that be recommended?
2) Will I be making BAH during this period of time? Since I would be bringing someone with me, the BOQ wouldn't really be an option.
3) Would I get normal DLA and everything else upon final check-out from my NROTC unit (on the way to A-pool)?
1. It's out of pocket, so you can move as much or as little as you want, just know that you'll be paying for it all. Also, your household goods move to PNS will be from your induction address, which will be your ROTC unit. I may be wrong, but I wouldn't expect for your TAD HHG office to pay for your move from your TAD location.
2. You'll be making BAH for your ROTC zip, not your TAD zip. You also would have to work something out w/ the BOQ since you're no-cost and they generally don't make reservations (lame, I know, but that's what I've run into at Navy bases). You can get help from the squadron with this once they've said yes to you.
3. Maybe things have changed, but I thought you still didn't get DLA when on induction/commissioning orders (as a regular mid) since you're technically TAD/TDY to the ROTC unit (hence "stashed") and NPA is your first actual duty station. STA-21 (and formerly ECP) guys are in a different boat since they PCS-ed to the ROTC unit to start school.
The TAD stash would only be for about a month or so, so if it's something you're interested in, I'd look at going solo while there and live in the Q, then come back and make kissy-faces w/ the sig. other and move together to PNS once you transfer. Trying to drag him/her along when working a drug deal like this just makes things harder unless you already have some kind of housing lined up.
