St. Patty's Day

Ask me about ninjas!
Being relatively new to the Eastern Carolina area, myself and the other Lt's in the squadron have no idea where to venture out for the most glorious of saint's days. Sure, they'll be running a half-marathon in the AM, and I'll be supporting them with Car Bombs at the finish line and the after party. But that's barely half the day. Anyone have any suggestions on where to actually go OUT in the Jacksonville/Havelock/Moorehead metroplex area?

If anyone should, by chance, find themselves in the Ocean City, MD area, I highly recommend Shennanigan's Irish Pub. It's a fun place, and the band that'll be there Friday and Saturday night is top notch. It's fronted by a friend and fine Irish gentleman from Donnegal, named James Gallagher. www.offtheboat.us

I was aiming for a little more local. It seems as though my Get Out of Jail Free Cards from the NC State Police, Havelock PD, and Moorehead City PD don't work too far away from their point of origin.

Normally I would say Greenville (East Carolina University) but unfortunately their Spring Break is this week (11-18) so it's probably a ghost town. I would defiantly hit it up sometime if i were you...

If you won't make the drive to Savannah for St. Pat's Day, you don't enjoy drunken reverie enough. Lock yourself in the barracks, or whatever hovel you live in and buy some new D&D dice.;)

Seriously, Savannah is...well...like Mardi Gras but with less grime and fewer pick-pockets. Its only 6 hours or so...do it.

Okay, I'll admit that Savannah sounds like a good time. However, my wife has to work Saturday morning, which presents difficulty. As in, she just started working at this job where she makes 2.7 times what I make, and she hasn't accrued any leave yet. And there's no negative leave balance for her, either.

And Greenville was already a ghostown as of two days ago.

Not to mention that Savannah is a 7 hour drive from Havelock, that's a little much for one day of drunken debauchery...

For the unenlightend who may only be a couple hours away from Savannah, what makes it such a good time?

Think New Orleans during Mardi Gras, but less bums and no funny smells.
And if you do a face plant in the street, you don't have to burn your clothes afterwards.

Also, Savannah has got some great restaurants, sights, things to do, and its a walking city. The town is incredible. My wife and I went there for Christmas and had a wonderful time. Again, too far of a drive for one night's drunkenness...

If you're stationed at MCAS Beaufort however, and you're NOT in Savannah, you had better be in Charleston...

To get back to your question, there are some nice places in New Bern - but I've only ever been there once. I know that Wilmington/Wrightsville beach is a bit of a drive, but again some great bars down there. If I were you, I'd make the trek to Emerald Isle. I'm FAIRLY certain that any of the bars on EMERALD ISLE are going to be having a great throwdown...

All DASC parties concerned were leaning towards Emerald Isle to begin with, but to be honest, I'm pretty burnt out on the E-Club (Emerald, not Enlisted) scene.

Have you ever blown through Emerald Isle and continued on to Atlantic Beach? There are a couple of good clubs there as well...

^Sure, that's an option. ...If you want to stand at attention in front of someone wearing a silver eagle or star(s), while you explain why your are, in fact, a dumbass.

In other news: I think the Lts, spouses and I will be heading to Atlantic Beach, if for no other reason than there is a large, welcoming house within low crawl distance to a bar there.
