Squadron Markings...

Just curious.. (google turned up nothing)...

Do any of you know which USAF Herc squadron has neon-pink markings? (If there is one)

I saw two Herc's yesterday with pink markings. I thought they also had USAF markings, but not sure. Roommate thinks the pink may have something to do with the hurricane relief.

Just curious of their origin. Thought the neon-pink markings were a little strange.

I know I've seen some of the C-130s from the Idaho Air National Guard, 124th Wing, 189th Airlift Squadron, with big neon pink 7's. I don't know what this means or what they're for. Some of these Hercs have been flying around the Gulf Coast, bringing relief to Hurricane victims.

I think they are from a unit of the CA ANG based in San Francisco.

Are you sure they're all big 7's or could it be 1-7. Every time I've flown into/out of Boise in the past 6 months I've seen 4 or 5 ANG Hercs sitting on the ramp for the National Interagency Fire Management center. Just a thought.

No, I'm not sure, it could be a 1-7, but the ones I've seen were all flying or over at the Guard Base, not at the Fire Management Center. I'll try to get a picture next time I'm in that area.

The flourescent are so the guys on the ground can see them (kind of hard to see through smoke :icon_smil ), they are usually used for the birds that have a secondary fire fighting mission.

I guess this issue was done, since the Bubba says the planes he saw were the same in the picture. I was at Mountain Home Air Base yesterday for an air show and there were two Idaho National Guard C-130s out of Gowen Field, Boise, that didn't have the flourescent markings. Guess the ones I saw have them off now or I saw another unit.

By the way, Six Thunderbirds took off and Six Thunderbirds landed, all with there original equipment. I was glad to see it. Good show.

Yep, CA ANG flying from Channel Islands ANG Station (aka NAS Point Mugu) have the bright flourescent markings. They carry a pretty evil water/retardant tank in the back that they'd fly over and drop their load as a demo at the PM airshow. Pretty impressive.
