Something interesting from the Safety Center website regarding personal firearms

I am not sure how this could be enforced other than to say that if you are involved in an off-duty shooting mishap, and did not complete this training, you could be found "not in the line of duty" when it comes to any medical treatment or death benefits.

FYI, the only Death Benefit that is tied to the LOD is the Survivor Benefit Plan. You pretty much have to be in the commission of a felony at the time of death to be determined NOT in the line of duty. Even if you are committing (or just finished committing) said felony, all death benefits are still paid. You just don't get military funeral honors.

And if they didn't get married until they took women seriously, that would handle 90% of our admin/legal issues too.

Big Navy could probably save a TON of money and effort if every young sailor/officer at 18/22 was issued a vasectomy and a 12/8 year supply of condoms and penicillin, then reverse it at 30.

As Operations Officer at Navy Casualty, I have seen and/or taken action on EVERY casualty report issued Navy-wide for the past 19 months. There has not been a SINGLE personal firearms related injury/death in that time frame that was not intentionally self inflicted.

Have there been a lot of suicides by personal firearm? Yes.

We also have sailors jump off bridges, hang themselves, overdose on pills, jump to their deaths, and pour gas on themselves and strike a match.

Well then, I guess we need training on those things too. How could clicking through training on NMCI (after loading the correct browser setttings for 5 minutes) NOT fix this? Seems pretty simple to me. I mean motorcycle training has all be eliminated the stupid bike tricks people do, right? Oh, wait....

I'm still waiting for the reliable reversible vasectomy. Whoever figures that one out will be a god damn millionaire. Supposedly there's a male "pill" coming.

My bad. Apparently I bought the line years ago when we were told stuff like "you have to wear a helmet on a motorcycle, wear an orange vest, etc" or you will be found not LOD and you wife won't get your SGLI.

I love it when the wives club gets a hold of info like that, and then the wives become the enforcement mechanism. They had my ex convinced I had to wear an orange vest riding my dirtbike on a racetrack.
