SNA Flight Physical

Wasn't sure exactly where to post this question.

So I am curious if anyone else has gotten their physical done yet. I had mine done at K-bay, Hawaii and it seemed like they were all on top of everything with all the latest forms. They had newer forms that superseded the SF 93, 88, and 507 which were available for download of the STA-21 website. Which I wasn't really concerned with since they state on the form that it superseded the old one. But when it came to my anthro measurements they had a different form from OPNAVINST 3710.37A (the STA-21 website has NAVMED 6410.9 for download). The problem I can see is that this "other form" (enclosure 2) didn't require shoulder-width, trunk height, or buttock-leg length.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I have no light to shed on this, other than the fact that I had to drive 500 miles out of the way just to redo this anthro sheet when they used the old outdated one on my most recent physical.

Be thankful that you have competent medical staff at your command!! I'm STILL trying to get an appointment schedule for my flight physical and the HMC and HM2 at my ship's medical office continue to give me the run around! To make matters worse, I tried calling over to Sewells Point Medical to schedule the physical myself and they told me that I had to have a referral called in by my ship's medical staff!! :icon_rage

I completed my physical in May along with all the blood work, so I am good to go. I wanted to make sure I could pass before I applied, so I didn't take a spot unnecessarily.

If I remember correctly STA-21 highly recomends that you do the flight physical before you apply to ensure that you are qualified for Aviation. Otherwise if selected and you fail the physical, no STA-21 for you.

right.. I also wanted ot make sur ethat if I did a physical in May that it would still be good to submit now.. No point really in doing two unnecessarily...

Any physical done after Jan 07 is good for submission. Just make sure that the SF-88 is typed and the HIV results on it say NEG. I just mailed mine to CNET, and Ed Straton said everything was good. Also, if you did you physical 3-4 months ago or later, medical might have put the physical exam on the old forms. CNET says you can submit the old forms, no worries.

Dumb medical related tangent-

When did we go from having medical officers on small boys to having IDCs for everything?

IDCs are great when you are in a CVBG and only a helo ride from the carrier. On independent steaming ops, thats another story.

This guy seems to not get it. Have your Chief just call Sewells Point. Makes me glad I'm on shore duty and can deal directly with them rather than going thru an IDC.

Amen to that! And to comment on what Master said, the last time my boat had an actual doctor embarked was during our 2004 Med Cruise when we had an LT onboard. I miss that guy cause he was pretty cool

I had mine completed at Sewell's Point back in February (old forms). I get an annual flight physical as an aircrewman, but the SNA is more indepth than a 5 year long form flight physical. I completed my physcial and at the end when you talk to the flight surgeon, the doc asked "So, why are you here?" I told him that I did the SNA now to ensure I qualified. He asked, "Aren't you an up aircrewman". "Yes" I says. To that, he replied "You fly now, dontcha!?" I had on those cool wrap-around sunglasses that the eye doc gives you after they give you those drops that dialate your eyes (which lasted ALL WEEKEND). He reviewed it, rubber stamped it, and sent me on my way. What a dick!
Make sure you make arrangements to have someone drive you. I drove back to Hampton through the tunnel squinting. I thought for sure I was going to be "That guy" who causes the back up.
