All,

I went to Gander Mountain over the weekend to handle a few 9mm, the Springfield included. Then I wandered over the their clearance/used rack and noticed a few Sigs. They had a 229 in .40 with a stainless slide, hogue grips, and night sights for $590. I decided it was a pretty good deal and picked it up since I love shooting Sigs. Now my next issue...where can I find .40 ammo the cheapest??? So far I have picked up some Blazer Brass from Walmart @ $8 a box.

Good choice! The P229 is probably one of the most comfortable and best designed combat pistols available.

For ammo, try www.natchezss.com

They typically have Blazer for cheap (and I think carry Blazer Brass too).

Love'em. Going to be my first pistol as soon as I get enough money to grab one... thank God my fiance isn't anti-gun. Never shot one in .40 though. How's it fire?

Very smooth and well behaved, not as snappy as a Glock 23.

My thoughts exactly. The Glock 23 is a great gun, but I think the Sig is much more controllable in bigger calibers.

Good buy ...those houge grips seem to be made for sigs. How bright are those night sights?

Everything on it is BRAND NEW. It baffles me that it was listed as "used" at the store. The salesman and myself don't even think it's been fired before, the inside is completely spotless. It was at least $60+ less than all the certified pre owned sigs that the store carried. I essentially got the same deal as a pre-owned because Gander Mountain is giving me a 1 year, 3 month warranty on everything.

This pistol makes me look more like Jack Bauer.....well, season 2 at least:icon_wink :icon_smil

What are they new like 800 ish without the grips and night sights? Id say you got a hell of a deal.

My thoughts exactly on the Glock... they are great.. I like the way they fire and the wieght of the weapon is comfortable...

The only reason you'd never see me with a Glock in my closet is b/c they just physically don't sit right in my hand...

Sigs on the other hand (no pun intended) feel like they were molded to my hand.

Good deal, good choice. Of course, the XD wasn't a bad idea, either, but I tend to care for the SIG a bit more. Blazer ammo (or Blazer Brass) is really good stuff for the price, it doesn't come much cheaper than Blazer for decent quality ammo. You can usually get the aluminum-cased stuff for a bit cheaper, and I haven't noticed any difference in quality. I usually buy the BB, though, because a buddy of mine reloads for me at my convenience.

Excellent choice on the Sig, one of the most comfortable guns to hold and fire for almost anyone and they work like a charm. I have a 226 chambered in .40 and it fires wonderfully. Very smooth. As with Bubba, I have trouble holding a Glock... it just doesn't feel right. The Sig is a perfect fit. Excellent buy at a steal of a price. Very good find. Does it have the DAK trigger system?

Hogue grips are also wonderful and highly recommend them.

They have an odd grip-angle compared to something more traditional like a SIG. Takes a while to get used to, but once you do, they point naturally.

How about Winchester white box or Federal red box ???

The Federal --American Eagle -- especially, is usually milspec loadings and is overall good quality. I used to try Blazer aluminum from time to time --- don't actually see it too much anymore where I shoot --- but it was not reliable in 1911's and Colt pocket autos ... never used it in poly-pistols.

Since Squeeze has disappeared .... where is that boy, anyway ??? --- I will have to throw in that GLOCKs are fine pistols --- I have one or three over the years and won a police competition with a GLOCK 19. They are not my first or second choice or third choice --- but don't discount the quality, reliability, and price of GLOCKs.

They're just extremely ugly ... but who isn't??? Present company excluded, of course .... :)
