Shipping Cars IN CONUS

Gents,
I had no luck with the search function. Im due to PCS out of San Diego back to Jax here in January. We drove both cars out here and would like to ship one back. Talking to the house hold goods and personal property types they all point me in a different direction. Some say the Navy helps some say they dont. Has anyone ACTUALLY done it and had the Navy compensate them INCONUS and HOW? Thanks for your help.

I found some stuff, nothing particularly helpful.

I am PCS'ing to San Dog and asked the same question. JFTR says no & they won't compensate. Ship it & take the per diem & mileage. It may cover the cost.

My neighbor PCS's last week and they payed to ship his car. He said it was written in his orders and that it was a new change. I always heard that the Navy will not ship Inconus but I followed him to drop the car off. The only thing I could come up with is that his final destination is Japan. He winged here in and still has the Rag to complete in San Diego. But they moved his car from Milton to San Dog so go figure.

After doing some more research i did find the actual instruction on the milpers website that states that the NAVY sees it as being cheaper to ship your car than have you drive separately and have to pay gas and millage on two. So they pay you what it would have cost - perdiem. So it may not cover everything but it sure beats driving too. More to follow once i can dig back up the website. I find it easier to go in armed with the instructions than trying to talk to the people at PSD or HHG, most of the time I feel like if they dont know the answer or dont want to do the work they tell you it cant be done.
Cant take full credit for the find....i fount it in another thread.

nice find - it won't cover the cost for shipping w/the estimates I've received though. Those are $750-1000. I'm flying the fam (reimbursed) & shipping a car. The mileage & Airfare reimbursement should get me close to whole. if I actually drove the family I would do better, but I've got 2 newborns and 2 older kids. That trip would suck
Norfolk to San Diego! I don't want a Griswald vacation.
